Little worried the NPC they're fighting at this point will overshadow the second hero and cause the entry to be disqaulified. Going to tone down his wrechedness so he doesn't look like he could be a corrupted and there are only 2 true player classes in the scene.
Emmisives are going to play a key role in the player classes in differentiating the classes and giving the characters pop, and the NPC will have almost none, so in that aspect he wont look as epic and cool despite his size. Once things are finished, he'll just be a big dumb brute.
Worse comes to worse i'll just remove the shadow class and call the NPC a corrupted hero.
JacqueChoi made me defect to the green side, so hopefully you guys won't bully me too much.
I just upscaled a thumbnail and started rendering. The canvas will definitely have to grow outward, as I have no idea of where this is going but I realise I need to show off more of the characters.
k so this is a fast colour key, I was thinking red and green complimentary and I will add a bit of local colour to things like the armour, debris, cloth and skin.
I'm a little late in the game, but I'll do my best to get this thing done in time. Let me know what you think of the rough concept. I'm going for the shadow.
I don't know how I feel about the direction you're going with it, but that's not a bad thing. Right now it seems like the head it too big for the body. I really like the repeating texture around the upper body and I think you can do something with that upward motion you've got going on. Keep it up :]
And thanks a bunch Sub, I actually redid my design today and I will do a new colour key tomorrow. A friend of mine was helpful enough to tell me what i should have seen a while back. My image wasn't very dynamic or interesting. so i pushed it a bit more and used some forced perspective.. I'l upload the coloured version tomorrow...maybe...
redone the pose of my general yet agen...and took sub's advice on da general's armour colour...so i'll be changin his colour theme aswel...but for the time being i'll be attemptin to redine my little babies ><
Rayph, I really love the shapes. "I" is really nice especially
koryface, beautiful rendering man. I'm a little jarred by the fact that each shape abruptly goes into one another though. Maybe the flag could arc more, or have a softer flow to contrast the hard shapes? Great stuff either way!
Gineticz, that guy really looks like he's agony! I think the creatures are varying in size too much maybe though?
~ I'm still trying stuff out, but I think wanna have a sea of bodies and the technomage is feeding their souls to the general.
kaktuzlime -- Really great idea!! I love where it's going so far I'm sure its the eyes, but the gal makes the design seem very Scott Pilgrim to me. Which is super awesome in my books. Her design in general is really great, so I'm excited to see where this goes!
For some school assignment I have to compete with a open art challenge, and I've always wanted to have a go at Dominance War
And since I discovered Dominance war through PC it seems right I joined this team.
I may be a bit late but I'd be damned if i didn't try. Will get something up soon.
Ryha: It's looking much better now, but what you need is a light source! *cue God Rays*
kaktuzlime: brilliant. Reminds me of the Baron Harkonnen from Dune. Very fun and very well done. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
WillMac: I'm liking the shadow so far but the other character seems lacking. With him being so huge, you lose sight of your smaller character so i'd either adjust your composition or scale the two to fit together. I really want to see your shadow character flourish in this as well as your second choice.
@WillMack: Thanks man! I´m glad you could decipher the story @Mezz: Thank you very much! My main inspirations as far as style goes are Bruce Timm, Ben Caldwell and Matt Rhodes. Niklas Jansson is my god when it comes to armour design. I think I´m going more asian than western with my design of these. I hope I can live up to your expectations! =D @Ocarian: Thank you! @Ulric: Thank you mate! Finding the balance between cartoon and realism wasn´t wholly easy @Cexar: That´s me! But with just one "s" ;P I´m afraid you have me at a disadvantage, I have no idea who you are. I sure hope noone I´ve insulted when drunk
I think Jouste, Rayph, Koryface and Suburbbumm (though I think you may be obscuring too much of the corruptor) have some really cool stuff going on. Can´t wait to see more
Alright, local colours and shadows blocked in. I know this looks like a desaturated smudgy mess right now, but it will get better. It´s part of my process, promise It´s like my 3D teacher at University told me "Patience young padawan", well actually he said "Shut the fuck up young padawan, and listen!", but the meaning is the same. He was the best teacher. I guess It´ll be some time now till my next post, cause this is where the time consuming rendering starts.
So, here are my first concepts for the pre-dominance challenge (Only WIP of course) I choose technomage and war general. I try to give them a "toy" aspect :P
A bit more progress. I wish I had more time to work on this but school is getting really demanding right now. Starting to iron out more of the details.
Hmm, not sure about the new direction sub. I really liked the negative space before, put an emphasis on the characters and really strengthened the action and perspective in the scene, the new rendering just looks a bit flat.
Also be careful with color, specifically overlays. Not sure if they're just placeholders, but if you use overlays too much from the get go things start getting muddy and water colory. The scene was really strong before, at this point it feels like you're losing your focus. I think you should narrow your color pallet, take out the purple, and find a way to get the green to work better with the oranges while working with a normal brush with no overlays to put in color details. Maybe look around online for another concept piece that uses colors you like and you can draw inspiration from that.
Still a very strong piece though, just getting a bit busy. Lovin' everything about the techno-mage.
Thanks crazyfingers. I've been trying to add in more colors but right now a lot of those overlays are just temps. I'll look around and see what I can find as far as reference.
Also, i'm experimenting giving the technomage a helmet. I'm going to work in a few designs and see what I like best. If it doesn't work it doesn't work, but it's something people have suggested to me.

Edit: Last update for the night
First pack of refs i (will) use for this concept:

Koryface: Nice compo !

Nice first rough, likin' the raw emotion, love the WTF factor. Did he just eject a rocket out of his ass?

My technomage is fighting a corrupted I've dubbed "Dragon Breath". Critique me please!!!
My first round of thumbing:
Sooo much better! And more in line with your original guy. Keep it coming.
I'll try and give some proper crit for people later. But for now. WORK!...yay......
Rayph- I like F and K.
The research for the "steampunk butterfly" backpack and first concept for the technomage face
Don't like it, but it's a start...!

Some Corruptor thumbs, leaning toward G at the moment

Anyway, here is how my rendering is going.
Love the "european comicbooks covers style" render

The Idea. The general is taking credit for a kill he didn´t make.
Sketches progress...
Take Care & GL!
@ Katuzlime, looks cool I like your styles so far, he looks smug.
Excelent cartoonist Style kaktuzlime.
Great rendering koryface
Keep up all
Yeah ! Original mix, like it too

Not as much progress as i'd like, but some!
@ Nespouik - liking technomage. I like the plumper war general, is comedic.
@ crazyfingers - nice idea. Who is who? Seem like 3 characters who would be alright... is one an Npc? You could swing the scene to maxmise.
@ Sub. I like your final war lord a LOT, you nailed it imo. I see what you mean I should do, I will work on it. Thanks.
And this sunday WIP:
So I began the Steampunk backpack:
