late response towards a few minor touch ups in my hand painted tut weap....adjusted the color a little bit and the levels...also added and cleaned up the blade a little more to let it stand out.....i think i should fully clean the blade but i decided not to....been busy lately with semester finals QQ
Working more on my Quake 2 (id tech 2) powered engine update. Gun model/player models by own3r, rest by myself, lots of foliage/effects missing, so it may look a bit sparse and underdetailed in places. All 100% in-game with zero editing in photoshop of course:
odium, it's freaking awesome! How and when can I buy/get this?
Not finished, but since I will not have time anymore to achieve the work I call it done :
The following is a school's work, I had to make a jeep car the most realistic as possible regardless the modeling but with a limit of 4500 tri. From the engine to the side mirrors. The target was the Playstation Portable (PSP).
Sir Calalot, awesome stuff. The third shot down is the strongest I think, mainly due to the strength of the shadows and values which the others seem to be lacking. Great lighting otherwise.
I see you're in Portsmouth by the way, are you at uni here?
I graduated last May with a degree in Computer Game Technology, but I still live here, yeah
I've had a bit of a fiddle with lighting and contrast.
So... Cross-Post Time!
The fog contrast has been upped, the plankton and particles are tweaked to look less square and the fish no longer barrel-roll for no reason!
I tried to get better contrast between the background and foreground as it is extremely easy to just get a big blue-blur that negates all shape definition.

wow, i graduated from there too about 4 years ago now, worst experience of my life. surprised to see this quality of work coming out of that dive (the uni not the town). When i was there the standard of teaching was incredibly poor, good to see you did yourself proud.

Cool, I'm currently on the same course in my final year. How are job prospects working out for you in Portsmouth? Have you had any luck with Climax?
I'm wondering if I can stay here after graduation and have any chance of finding a job.

I don't know what the university as a whole was like 4 years ago, but I gotta say I love it in its current state, there's plenty going on and plenty to be involved in. There are problems with the games tech course though, mainly a complete lack of artistic focus and an overall complacency towards mediocrity... but there are talented people here who I'm sure will find success somehow, even if that is not as well facilitated by the course as it could be

Great work, congrats.
Bollocks did they have anything to do with this
But seriously, thanks!

Benji is right, the Uni and it's staff are all very nice and the facilities aren't bad at all.
It's just that they don't teach you much beyond the basics on the course. And if you go the extra effort to learn something like UDK, CRYengine or Source then you get no support, as the lecturers don't know the engines themselves.
The only time when I actually felt like I was learning anything at a useful rate was in my third year when I decided to teach myself UDK for my final project environment.
That's not to say that the course was a waste of time, it's just that the vast majority of my current design and 3D knowledge came from my own research.
With regards to Climax, I personally think that their admin department is a joke. I have applied to quite a few games companies in the UK and Climax, after many attempts, are the only company to not have even bothered replying. If you want to stay in the area after graduation for jobs then Guildford is your best bet; housing Electronic Arts, Media Molecule, Lionhead Studios, Criterion Games and possibly Creative Assembly and SEGA if I recall correctly.
To be honest though, Portsmouth isn't so great when you are no longer a student and I'm trying to get an Environment Artist job up in the Midlands to be close to family and the girlfriend.
Edit: SEGA's Creative Assembly is based in Horsham.
Another Piece from my portfolio. As part of a gift to girlfriend I modeled her grad film character. Check her film out on her blog hyeinpark.blogspot.com
I thought Overdose was a fairly well known and supported mod? What kind of people do you need?
Character artists to finish off the other classes, animators for said players (Already rigged) and weapons (again already rigged), weapon model guys are badly needed too.
truth, pinkbox
lookin cool dado, I feel like you could use richer colors though - i know your photo of it probably knocks it back a little bit from what it's really got going though
and you mad, Jonah. This is looking sweet man, I love that screen
looking forward to the lowpoly and all!

Well seeing as its still only two people working on it, sometime in about 2047? But its coming along fast now, so hopefully soon.
