Those clouds in post #266 are looking good man. Have you seen 5 Centimeters Per Second (anime film) recently? I had a wallpaper up recently I think was from the film, which I was reminded of upon seeing your pics. There are some nice shots through the whole movie, especially clouds.
Do you find yourself partial to any particular style when you paint? I ask because I've noticed you going all over the place over the past year or two, I guess I'm curious as to what you're discovering in your experimentation.
Two Listen: yeah i watched that and the backgrounds in the movie are drop dead gorgeous! so i had to make a study. Btw if you Enjoyed 5 cm per second you should check out makoto shinkais lates movie The Garden of Words. It's crazy good looking.
Man i have had trouble answering this question. As i just draw stuff random stuff when i get inspired and alot of the times that includes different drawing styles. But what i have noticed that i usully do colorful fantasy images or darker more grungy science fiction images. Hmm i dont think i can put my finger on a specifik thing i have learned while experimenting. I just think that by testing different styles i have improved my usage of different kinds of tools. Like for example i rarely used the lasso tool but now i use it alot more than before aswell as just improving my linedrawing alot and usage of phototextures when i use them, which is kinda rare.
woah more than 10 days since i last posted. crazy.
It's great to see your continued posting. Something I figured I'd mention, for awhile now these more recent ones (the Zone 6 ones especially, I guess? - some others too, though) have been bugging me a bit but I've had a hard time pinpointing what it was more than anything else. Looking over them now, I think it's a problem with them being really busy/complex, and really...bloomy? Seems like there's a crap ton of "bloom" like lighting everywhere. Not only are there usually many light sources (you seem fond of giving many different things/objects/structures accentual lights - usually red in these more recent ones), but each one of these little lights - be they small, or primary, all look like they're done late in the painting with a really soft brush to give them sort of a glow. But having them all over the place sort of hurts your composition, and the quality of the painting as a whole I feel. Additionally some of these seem really complex - a lot going on in the background, robots in the foreground, pipes, wires, asian looking rooftops, etc. Often times, though, these backgrounds wind up getting a blur treatment leaving only unclear silhouettes and more of those bloomy lights, which reads more like an after effect than confident work. There's not a lot of clear design for the layout of the picture - no real significant change in color temperature to help draw focus, imply distance, etc.
I went through some of your more recent stuff and chose my favorite images, the ones I thought had the best read and looked most confident:
Most of these are (sometimes drastically) less complex than these later ones, but they read much more clearly, lack the excessive bloomy lights, and feel more confident/directed as a whole. Have some nice hard strokes, some clearer intent, I feel like.
Anyway...it's evident that you're continuing to work hard at this, so thank you for keeping us up to date on your progression.
Thanks for the feedback! ill try to keep that in mind and cut back abit on the bloom
The Religion of the Triworlds
The Religion of the Triworlds believes that there are 3 different planes of existence. The three planes are connected and it’s possible with the right training to be able to transport your existence to the one of the other worlds. The triworlds consists of The world of Zone 6, Earth and the world of the spirits. The Triword religion was founded at the same time as the founding Zone 6. Old tales tell of a time where the beings from the spirit world and earth coexisted with the citizens of zone 6 and together founded Zone 6.
Awesome stuff! I'm in love with the cold and lonely scenes you draw that have little spots of vibrant colour. It makes me get into a very special and delightful sad mood.
That's some fantastic concept art going on there. Really inspiring and beautiful. I love the one especially from first person view with fireball falling from the sky. Very creative.
