Some of the spots are too plain I think, maybe a little hair hair carried through them would look better. Especially the fur on the udders because from that view there is a plain line that makes it appear the tex isn't aligned properly.
And the hooves appear unfinished since they have no defining texture. And tail too, even if it's black fur it needs definition.
When I first saw the nostril on the tex I thought you had fulfilled snader's request
Extremely fantastic. Im not big on the heavy texture on the udders, i think it could use being a little lower contrast, like the nose. Becomes a weird focal point as is, to me.
Cow texture, 512 x 512, critique and comments welcome:
That cow has got poo brains(Adventure time ftw!) Utter than his eyes looking into my soul he looks awesome(and I would honestly keep his eyes just like that, gives him to more personality) I am just constantly blown away how much the 3d model looks like a 2d image!
Love it! I would have thought it was a painting if I didn't see the flats before the model. I'd tone down the utters just a bit. Other than that, great stuff!
biofrost, toxic_h20, ladyknowles, gilesruscoe - Thank you guys ^_^
jeffro - Yes sir, haha, gonna make the last few changes to the cow texture, then I'm off to finalize my screenshots and breakdowns for port.
Andy H, SupRore - Thanks guys, I'll definitely work on those udders. Guess I got kinda lazy on that part of the texture - I think some more time will fix it
Lol Sectaurs x]
Baddcog, thanks for the crit! I'll fix the texture alignment on the udders and try to work on those black areas a little more.
AT THE HOME STRETCH GUYS!!!!!! This project has been great fun, but I am SO excited to start the next hahaha xD
Pickle - Thanks! I will do a little breakdown of my process for you, although it is nothing particularly fancy, just the blocking in of colors and some more delicate brushstrokes toward the end!
chrisradsby - haha, it would have been done sooner, but I played too much Starcraft :x Eyes have been addressed! I painted out the jaggies.
TeeJay - Hm, I don't remember saying anything about characters, at least in this thread xD. However, you're right, I've got a ZBrush class coming up so you guys can watch me struggle through the new software Our semester assignment is two characters.
Here is everything I came up with from this project. I just want to say thank you again to everybody for taking the time to write out so many great critiques and comments for me. Thanks for pushing me to learn lighting, colors, and value. Thanks for all the suggestions on different techniques and methods of problem solving. In this thread I finally learned about tileable textures (yessss \^_^/), how to navigate UDK (bugs and all), and how to present my work a little more decently.
That being said, there are things I think I can do better for my next environment! Get more confident with the tech stuff (shaders, lighting, general UDK things), compose from all angles of the scene to get a completely playable result, work on textures. It shall be done!
I absolutely love how much learning took place in this thread. But you know what I love most of all? There is isn't a single F'ing well in the entire thing. HA! So much for the title of the thread, and all those concepts at the start. hehe. But I love that you started with an idea and it completely changed by the end. But its amazing that you stuck it out and finished it. Not many people can do that when changing ideas, I dont think.
I have to hand it to you. You've made so much progress, and this last piece is stunning. I hadn't checked this thread in a while so when I saw that first screenshot from your latest post I thought it was just a refined 2d image of your concept. You captured a great illustrative look to this, and the level of detail you've managed is something I don't often associate with real-time diffuse painted textures. If it were playable and looked like this then it would be off the charts, but great job nonetheless.
Amazing stuff, been following your progress for a while and have to agree with other you've made amazing progress and documented it well for the whole community to learn from. Hats off for that! Inspires me to try and work harder to finish my scene.
stunning work 8] really dig the hand-painted foliage and grass, they have such a cool style to them! This turned out really nice, hope to see your next project :q
Hm. I thought I'd mentioned this earlier, but I can't seem to find the post. ...sometimes I forget to actually post a reply.
Anyway.
In short, the foreground has gotten a lot of love and care, but the background still feels like a temporary one.
The rear hills bother me a bit, in that they're very undefined. The foreground has plenty of sharp edges but the rear (mostly the right because it's the most in view) feels like it's just a squished sphere.
I think a quick fix would be to cut in some extra lines on the sides of the dirt path, and flatten the walkway a bit with them. It would also help to have some slight variety in vegetation and possibly a dirt patch around the trees there. Right now the trees seem kind of just plopped in.
Beautiful work Jessica!! The scene looks great and you've definately improved a lot since you started this project. I'm looking forward to the next one.
OMG!! I love your cow! The scene is really nice to look at too- Although I think the windows are pretty harsh up close with the saturation as high as it is. Maybe some mip level trickery is in order!
Awesome job Jessica! I enjoyed following this thread and your immense progress. There was tons of helpful information in this thread as well. Love how it came out and I'm looking forward to checking out your next project too.
Congrats on finishing this. It came out awesome I think. Personally, I don't like the cow in the right hand corner lol. Maybe if it was more in the shot it might look better. Awesome work nonetheless.
To mods: Any chance to this topic be put on showcase, or at least receive a feature on main page? The final piece is wonderful, and the thread itself is full of learning and inspiration.

After looking through this thread, I would definitely second that suggestion.
Whooaaa, I'm totally blown away by this environment and how complex it is!
I am confused as to why this is not in the banner as I write this comment :O

Snader, you weirdo.

Talking serious, it's becoming amazing, both proportions and texture. Maybe you could add some more AO on her tits. But it's near perfect.
Thank you Hayden; he sees into your soul ehehe.
jramauri - Hm, yes, I will work more on the udder, I agree it needs some more value in there.
marq4porsche - Will do!
thats awesome! (the eyes look a bit off, but otherwise its awesome)
it looks like you just said something incredibly racist to it.
I would paint out the corners of the eye planes.

I'm checking this thread frantically for updates, the cow is such a wonderful touch.
Did I imagine it or did you say you were going to try some characters next?
I'm excited!
Hayden Zammit - Mohawk?! xD haha!

All this stuff goes to my inspirational folder!

The cow peeking out from the corner made me lol.
