After reading that article I had to shed a tear for the old spear and throwing knife; may they be recreated with mods post-haste. Same goes for all of the individual weapon-type divisions.
Yeah..
I was saddened that there were no throwing knives, crossbows, shurikens, spears, glaves, halberds, etc. In Oblivion. They could at least have a pole-arm weapon class.
yeah, I'd like stuff such as Spears or Polearms. I get enough satisfaction from what they have, but I do love me some variety.
I think it does sound like they're seperating how weapons feel more in skyrim too, like daggers not being a small sword, but actually working like a dagger and being way more useful for backstabbing instead of just being a weapon with a skill attached to it.
I see a Samurai book sitting on the bookshelf over the shoulder of the guy talking.
I really, really hope that my dreams of being an argonian samurai will once again be realized.

It's the theme of akavir, the continent east of tamriel, also known as the "dragon lands"
And the blades all use akavir equipment (due to historic reason), so you'll most likely be seeing some samurai inspired gear in skyrim.

Aye, i'm aware. I just recall there being Katanas, Dai Katanas, tantos, wakazishis, and the like in Morrowind. I had a skirt and other such things on my Argonian, and I made my class samurai. (Long, short blades. Medium armor. Athletics, etc. Archery, etc.) It was fun. I really should play Morrowind again. ALL OF YOU SHOULD.
Oh my. Dagerfall. I remember playing this. I think I missed a whole lot about the game, though, as I kept wandering into bars and just finding topless women sitting about. I never could figure out what I was doing.
Perhaps it calls for a retry.
Daggerfall? I think I remember the demo shipping on the same PCGamer CD-insert that the Warcraft2: Tides of Darkness demo was on or something like that. ...that and being grumpy that it was too intense for my little 486/win3.1/dos machine.
I made it out of startingdungeon, personally but I think i was too stupid as a youngin to actually figure out what to do, rather thank walk in a straight line to the nearest city.
I had no idea about quick travel.
I quickly learned how massive the gameworld was.
GODDAMNIT I get little enough free time as it is and you shove these pretty jewels under my nose? I have the original Daggerfall big-box issue (with proper manual) which I will now have to play through again...
Its so easy to see the difference between games 'back then' and how simple they make games now, seem much more complex and big then newer games. So many conversation options I know lot of the stuff is randomly generated but still, its kinda awesome.
Speaking of rewrites, there's also a bunch of Morrowind rewrites like OpenMW, Project Aedra, or Crystal Scrolls; all at different stages of development. At the moment, they look pretty much like the vanilla version of the game, but I'm hoping for some improvements in terms of how the game handles the journal system (awful in the vanilla game).
There's also some projects for Morrowind, like Morrowind Code Patch which adds some cool features (spell casting with a weapon out, like in Oblivion) and a bunch of code fixes.
My favourite is Shelter From Magnus' Blaze which adds dynamic shadows for the outdoor environments and is regularly updated. If Hrnchamd figures out a way to add dynamic shadows in interiors shit will be perfect :poly142:
That said, I really need to sort my responsibilities out so I have the time to finish my new Morrowind campaign. I promised myself that this time I WILL finish the main quest :poly142:
Sounds okay for console but I have to fear for the PC version (from previous experience of console/pc games) :P Better make a working UI for PC which isn't consolize, oblivion was very bad at that.
Nerdgasm'd all over that article. Looks like this game is shaping up to be a definate GOTY and i haven't even seen one gameplay video. I think it's because I know how well Bethesda does the RPG bit, and from these article, you can tell they've listened to the feedback they got. The modding scene is going to love this kit too. November couldn't get here sooner :P
@TeaAndCiggarettes
My two top priorties are now
1. Finish my second playthrough of Dragon Age, and all DLC, so I can have a non broken save for importing into Dragon Age 2 when the time comes
2. Find my Morrowind Discs, get the Shelter From Magnus' Blaze, and play Morrowind again, Vanilla. (excluding SFMB, of course.)
Skyrim's new menu system sounds beautiful, I can only hope that skyrim has body awareness, where you can see your body/legs/etc, because then my immersion=complete.
Yeah - my computer can't load that for anything - explains why I was clueless! Haha. Found it elsewhere online as just text and images. Thanks for pointing that out!

Eld, make the wait more bearable, teach us more lore
I'm not the kind of guy walking around reading all the books, I just take notice of interesting details :P
It pretty much set my rpg taste in stone though, starting with:

There's no reason to not play it! You can even visit Skyrim.

Startingdungeon is notoriously hard, and you even finding the way out can be rough the first few times.
If you find any silver weapons they should do damage on imps.
Also, do it in steps, go forward and kill a monster, go back a bit and sleep to regain health, save and repeat.

This year is heaven for me, starts well and ends well.
I've actually been alternating between those 2 games and Planescape: Torment for the last few months. :P
DaggerXl is a big job, I've been watching it for a while, hope it pans out.
Yeah, I think that guy needs way more support than he's getting.
I also love his talk about implementing coop in daggerxl, amongst other things

Wonder if it is of any significance? I mean, it is on the wall, for Pete's sake!
We'll find out eventually, I suppose.
It's a reference to the things that have been written in the elderscrolls, and have happened, things that leads up to this point.
And since everything that was said was going to happen have happened, it means that the legend that dragons will return will come true aswell.
