So glad to hear that. And It was great to hear when that WOW fan asked about customisable UI that the panel said there is going to be none of that nonsense. I want MY diablo simple. The whole game should be playable using mouse only. No crazy hot-key combos and menus everywhere.
And you can keep your diablo your way anyhow, it's still sad that they chose to do this, ui-modding in world of warcraft was both popular and flexible and most likely also a part of what made it so popular.

Similar to wc3 and its modding.
Yeah. I know i'd be able to keep it default but if diablo went down the modding route there is a possibility that it would be necessary for it to become more complex.
Its explained better in this video at 6:30. In the Q&A. Thing is my girlfriend plays as well. And if the game got any more complex. She wouldn't play it, she'd hate it in fact, she cant really use mouse and keys at the same time. I expect its like that for a lot of players.
EDIT: btw. I realise that adding custom UI doesn't mean the game controls would become more complex. I'd just rather keep the game more true to D2 when it comes to controls and menus. And have them focus more on gameplay, etc.

It has nothing to do with how complex the UI is, and I'd bet that the architecture for the diablo3 UI is using the same one as the one for world of warcraft, meaning xml's and scripting that controls it.
Only difference now, it won't be exposed to modders anymore.
I think one of the reasons they are doing this is the ammount of issues and support they had to give due to having it customizable, much cost with nothing to gain on it.
They're panel explanation sounded a bit weird too, since if anything, the modding community has pushed things to become even more simple with the help of mods, and blizzard has never implemented anything that the community did that would make it more complex.
the wow UI has gotten gradually more simple to use over time.
Also, both diablo and world of warcraft can be played both with and without the keyboard.
Fair enough. I'm not into modding so its something i'm not interested in. So I am being a bit selfish.
So, I am still glad they arent doing it. For me it means they can focus on what I am interested in. Gameplay and simplicity of use.
For me, whats most important that they get right in D3 is that it plays and feels like D2. Obviously they'll try to improve it but I'd hate for them to break it by looking down new paths for the game.
TBH. I'd be just as stoked if they were just releasing another expansion for D2.
New Diablo looks fine, although has way more an updated WoW vibe than it does a Diablo 2 vibe. The demon hunter is just a WoW elf.
Not that I am deeply invested since I thought Diablo 1 & 2 were boring and tedious. The new emphasis on tons of builds and PVP actually sounds kind of fun. Now if only you started with all skills and equipment unlocked at the start of the game, the online portion might be worth playing.
It is amazing to me that people are still saying that D3 is not obviously inspired by WoW's art direction-- for those that have forgotten, this is what D2 looked like:
UI customization can enhance gameplay and make things more simple.
If you personally can't be bothered with making your UI more efficient because you'd rather feel nostalgic, then you can do that whether there were UI mods or not.
If the D3 UI really does not support mods then Blizzard would be making more people unhappy rather than happy.
But everyone is going to play it anyway so I guess it don't really matter
@eld

I'd say similar but different, torchlight for example is an improvement over diablo2 in terms of how the game handles, it's more flexible and fast, much like how diablo2 was more flexible and fast than diablo1.
diablo3 seems to go the same way as torchlight, more group control skills, more movement based skills, more area attack skills, healing orbs, autopickup gold(maybe?) and things like that.
diablo2 is awesome, but there's definately areas to improve on.
Best thing about Torchlight that I hope they take for D3, the pet. That thing goes to town for you and vendors your stuff. Pure awesomeness.
As a side note, don't you guys find it a bit tragic/sad that D2 was out 10 years ago, Tortchlight is out now, is a good game, and yet D3 is getting all the buzz? Sortof feels like Torchlight is getting the raw deal here.
Ninjas:
D1+2 looks like a country/dungeon etc overrun by hell's legions.
D3 looks like a colorful, beautiful world with some demons walking around. It's too nice.
Well Bigjohn. What do you expect? Torchlight is based on Diablo and Diablo's back and he means business. You always go nuts for the Original not the spinoffs, inspired by's and such. First love will always be remembered etc.
Sorry Torchlight, I liked ya alot but Diablo is my daddy and he's yelling at me to come home.
@Bigjohn. I dont think there'll be pets that carry stuff, but there is pets. I think the torchlight guys will be loving the hype for D3. Alot of us will be buying torchlight 2 just to fill the time in till D3 is out. Plus with co-op it might get a few converts to stay rather than go to D3.
....but not me...
An improvement for D2 that i would like I think, Is a thing they did in Titan Quest. I hope we'll be able to buy back skills from our skill trees. I hated the fact you were stuck with bad choices.

inspired by's?, with the original diablo designers and the original composer on board torchlight, which one is the most diablo of these two ip's?

No, torchlight was awesome and it got a lot of praise. The only problem for me was the lack of multiplayer. It still lasted me a good 40+ hours of gameplay before I got tired of it
more like ass-cameltoe :P, in just about most fine cases of females, you'll be able to see a hint of the ass from the front too, unless she is really hung. *shudders*

With one of the later patches in Diablo 2, you can do a quest to Re-roll your stats/skills.
There's also items you can transmute to get a re-roll as well.
Though there will likely be a bit of delay i'm pretty cool with this. Was worried there would be additional fees attached to the game or the usual fear that the console port would dumb down the game, but if the old PlayStation port of Diablo is any indication it shouldn't be an issue for a Diablo title, especially considering how late in the development the title already is.
Edit: Whoa i was way off in thinking current gen consoles could handle diablo, in fact their memory restrictions would make it damn near imposible to pull off if what i'm reading on the internet is correct.
Update from Kotik:
"Were exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles and are currently looking to fill a few senior console-related positions on the Diablo III team," the post reads. "As weve said in the past, with proper care the gameplay could suit the console platform, and were interested in seeing what talent out there might be interested in such a project."
"Please note that this is not an announcement of a console title," the post continues. "We are first and foremost developing Diablo III for Windows and Mac PCs and dont intend to allow any possibility of a console interpretation to delay or affect the release of the game."
hmmm..yeah..was just reading this over at kotaku. At first I was like...wtf! noooooo...because in the past I think PC games suffered when they are made for consoles as well. But then that's probably an out dated view. Diablo style games don't need much work to port over anyway I expect.
I just want them to get the bloody thing finished and released. Worry about consoles later.
Simple answer how they do those skills is have the rune as a modifier to a particle system. So say Rune A : gives beam particle animation a diferent random pattern ? makes it look like a swar for example.
Nice lengthy diablo 3 video just released, nothing really new but a good chunk to watch and get pumped about the game again, looks fun. Would love to see more items, skills and such but it's worth a watch:
Do you think if maybe a bunch of polycounters went to blizzard, and all puked on the doorsteps out of sheer need for this game, they'd at least let us in on the beta?
Or cause a chain reaction of puking that would delay the game... So lets not do that. We can gather and puke after the game is out as we try to describe how awesome the game is.
BTW, are there any plans for Polycount to run together online? I would love to be apart of that. Also have a PvP crew!
A few polycounters are at blizzard. Maybe they can start puking on the inside as well. Pukefest for Diablo!
I'm hoping we'll have a good polycount community thing going on. Like Minecraft but with trading, etc. It'll all be Battlenet I expect so no need for servers.
Oh, theres also the PvP, which im not really fussed about (until I play it, and get completely addicted), so I'm hoping for a polycount clan/team thing.
what the hell, they hired Brom as a concept artist? drewwwwls, loving the dark arts ^^.
the game isn't looking as gritty as I hoped, but still getting a good vibe from the gameplay.
I'd take the enchantress out for a classy dinner if you get my drift. The scoundrel will probably be my follower of choice though. You can't fuck with a stache like that.
The only thing that will break this game for me is if Blizzard pulls that stupid inane bullshit of keeping US and EU players separate like they did with SC 2 and continue to do with WoW.
I can play Diablo 2, StarCraft and WC3 with Americans, so I certainly hope this isn't different. Or did the internet get shittier since 2001?

How many of you re-roled a character and started Diablo2 LOD again?
I admit: I've started a new character in Diablo2 ^^
.... I can't wait until Diablo come!

Don't give kotaku your traffic. Go here man! http://us.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/systems/runestones.xml
Just installed Diablo 2 again. Gonna play it again over summer in prep for D3!
You're gonna be sooooo disappointed when D3 gets postponed again then.
This eternal wait is painful, i want to play D3!
