Laro: "My advice is this, spend your every living moment striving to make yourself happy. In my opinion, feeling good about yourself and what you do is the most important thing when it comes to being an artist. Following communal rules, trends and obsessive comparison will do everything in its way to chip away at your individuality and just make you feel inferior about yourself and your abilities. Obsessing over your own rules and personal targets will be the only things that really matter in the long run." Damn you're good!
@Laro - Really nice texturing. I hope you do consider the requests of several folks in the thread and after the contest ends make a nice thread explaining your process.
Swizzle - Thanks alot man, your work is killer! There is no doubt in my mind your medic and demoman entries will win.
Dr. Waldo Fehr - Its ok its not an animation its just jiggle bones.
Fragus - Been googling me eh?
khthon - Well i've certainly thought about it, however the only time i would have to do a tutorial would be after the contest but then it wouldn't be useful to anyone anymore.
Haha, yeah i think i will be, well i'll definitely get this radio done by today, and hopefully i should get the hat done tomorrow. Then the last day i have to touch up and submit. With all that going smoothly i would have achieved a whole class pack of 5 models in 10 days
This is really some beautiful work, the texturing is fantastic. My favorite part out of everything is the slight oxidized green color around the sides of the bugle. Great attention to detail!

On the contrary, I'm sure there's a ton of people here who'd love to learn a great deal from your process.

I couldn't agree more. I think this contest has introduced a lot of people to making TF2 assets. Although I wasn't able to finish my submission in time for the deadline, I would love to keep making things for regular community submissions. A tutorial on how to do it would be fantastic.
man i hope you finish, your stuff is redonkulous. im glad you threw up your texture sheets, im having a terrible time with mine but seeing yours has given me some ideas. awesome work man.
Also I'd definitely love a mini-tut on texturing. It's always useful seeing the workflows of others especially when their work is at the level of yours.
holy shit, why didn't i follow this pack? you literally make modeling for a item contest look like art. Honestly, i don't know how you could possibly lose. The textures and models are so crisp, so clean, and tight, i could eat off them.
As everyone keeps saying: after the contest please put up a tutorial, it will help people learn the ropes and strengthen Polycount as a community for up and coming modelers+game artists.
MacD11 - Not quite yet, i have the hat to do. The flag, bugle and radio are just one item remember.
Swizzle - Cheers man, Have you already sent off your entries?
Psyke - I plan on making a little fake update page if i have the time. Although I'm about to fall of my chair in an exhausted comatose heap.
Khthon - I'll see what i can do.
Alright i'm going to make a start on the hat model right now, if it all goes to plan i'll have the whole hat model and texture done by today. Either that or i'll be enjoying the beautiful soft silk lining of my casket after my brutal death from exhaustion.
laro, your textures always look great - I have to ask - do you go over the soft cap? I think it's worth it if you do. If you don't, I am VERY impressed.
I just registered to give you this message: Include that nifty knife you scrapped from your other pack (survival knife). It still fits with this theme and would complete the slots. You have already completed it. It is also a high quality item, and I'd love to slash people in game with it. Pretty please?
Also, as per the contest rules: You must create a minimum of three unique items for only one particular class (e.g. 1 x primary weapon, 1 x secondary weapon, 1 x hat – you cannot do 2 or more of the same item)
The knife being brought back wouldn't be bad, it gives the soldier a complete weapon slot update if this becomes the winner, in other news, gorgeous work.
Aww come onnn guys i don't know about the knife, the thing is i want to submit this pack by itself, graff pirate has done a pretty decent knife already and if i submitted mine and valve don't like it they wouldn't bother with the rest of my items either.
I think what im going to do is just submit my tankbuster pack by itself (Rocket launcher, radio, bugle, flag and hat), then afterwards i'll submit the knife as an individual community contribution instead does that sound ok?
Zipfinator - I fell asleep during the day because of the lack of sleep haha, so i'm slow on the start today haha, but ok here is an ortho? I'm going to start whipping up the model right now.
Pogo - Thanks, yeah i love uv packing, if only there was a portable game i could play to pack my uvs haha.
Dr. Waldo Fehr - Yeah thats how i feel tbh.
Ortho done, going to start on the model right now.
I think that's really nice of you and all, but unless I'm missing something he hasn't updated his thread in over a week and at the time only had a concept to begin with. and in either case, do you really beleive that the only reason they'd choose your pack over his is because you included that one extra item?
I don't want to sound like a jerk or anything here and I'm all for helping each other out and what not. I just think that at the end of the day it's a contest about who made the best pack, and you should be doing everything you can to make sure that it's yours. And Graff should be doing the same thing.
Did you forget about the badge on your cap or are you just not gonna put it there? It would look a lot more complete with it on in my opinion. Also, this pack WILL win, I can feel it in my gut.

I agree...tankers also carried knives, btw.

This stuff is beyond insane. Excellent work.
Quoted for truth. I just spent a few hours staring at your knife texture sheet trying to figure out what you did that worked so dang well.

Alright i'm done on the radio huzzah!
3442 tri's
Texture time!
you are going to cut this so bloody close.

Nice work.
The hat is more commonly referred to as a patrol cap (never heard of a utility cap)
Yikes its 5:20am, I've been modelling/texturing straight for 7 days. *whimper
Ok done on the radio,
Alright. LAST thing left is the hat, oh god.
Also I'd definitely love a mini-tut on texturing. It's always useful seeing the workflows of others especially when their work is at the level of yours.
i'd include the grey background final shots in your pack when you send it in, just so valve can see how brilliant these look from all directions

Here is a little comp of the flag and radio.

How is the hat going! We need updates!
I love how true to the concept you've stayed
