hey, maybe after the polycount update, valve will release a "runners up" community update...
I guess TF2 will never die...in some ways.
EDIT: I think cheeezy is doing a FANTASTIC scout theme, and there are several other promising themes aswell...After you cut out the ones that will never finish in time...
One suggestion... now front and back looks exactly the same... maybe you should add there this "cylinder" thing to the back as can be seen when real rocket luncher is loaded?
That rocketlauncher is sweet! But why not 4 barrels like in reality instead of one? It would make more sense since the Soldier fires 4 rockets in one clip.
It's probably a bit late to change it now though
Alright i am done with this i think. Last night i accidentally saved over my original layered texture file with a flattened spec map.....ARGH, so i had to spend 6 hours repainting the WHOLE thing all over again. That was not fun, but hey it happens.
I don't think it would matter that much, because he just jams the rockets in there and his hand is probably big enough to cover them all. But it's too late to change it now anyways.
Nah, i'm sticking to 1024x1024, its a very large item, like the minigun and rocket launchers. The texture is already unforgiving in the fps view even at 1024.
Source uses an aggressive color compression so it destroys blacks and dark colours. No way around it apart from bigger textures. Also its partly down to me because i always texture to 100% global texel density all over a model, rather than upscaling important areas and downscaling unimportant areas.
Echoing Simskis suggestion on something on the side, should totally add blood and a slap a huge MannCo logo on there.
No thanks. The blood would ruin it and Mann Co. is way overused. It needs something humorous that would take a minute to read, like what Simski showed.
I'd strongly advise against using text, like Simski suggested, on your model. Text wants to be read, every time, and you have better things to do in game than read your weapons. As long as your can make out what weapon you're carrying, the first person view shouldn't be visually impressive. The Direct Hit is much more detailed than the standard Rocket Launcher, and consequently much, much uglier.
I do think that it's a bit of a shame that you don't have a sight, but there's no good place for it where it wouldn't catch too much attention. Personally I would bend the moveable parts of the lock on top slightly upwards, to make a bit more of a silhouette, but that's almost ridiculously minor.

Sarcasm, doesn't translate well through text.
I think a low opacity white "stamp" looking version of the TF 2 symbol would be cool.

It seems the first person view of Laralo's rocket launcher have mostly the front part of it visible though, he could place it behind the Players first person view of it.
Alternatively, the sign could be added to the other side of the rocket launcher.
This would be more visible to other players, but wouldn't interfere with the wielders attention to the battle.
Thank you for the suggestions everyone however i'm finished with the rocket launcher, i don't have to time to make any changes sorry. I hope you understand the implications of changing a finalised model requires a HUGE amount of time (re-uving, re-baking and re-texturing from scratch) Which is pretty much 60% of the work.
I don't think it needs any changes but what's all that talk about not being able to modify a "finalized" model? Do you delete your PSD's and such when you finish a model?

He means geomtery changes, which would require modifying or completely redoing the uvs and some parts of the texture most likely.
Major geometry changes would require that but a label on the side would just need a texture edit. I guess he was talking about the sights and such though.
I don't think a label would look good, especially if it wasn't at least partially in the First Person point of view. And it has the perfect amount of detail beyond First Person with the jiggled caps and all. So I say just move onto the hat or radio!
I was wondering about the knife, It could still be a great addition to this pack. Remember there is a minimal of 3 items, you can do more! so I don't see why not to include the finished knife.
EVIL - I would but Graff pirate has done a similar knife already so i don't think i'll bother to be honest. Although i might submit it at a later stage as a normal contribution.
Beautifully simple entries. I think you have a real winning chance with these, they're very clean and the textures are exemplary. Very fitting to the TF2 universe too. I hope to be playing with these sometime soon.
Are you still planning on doing the hat, the flag and the backpack too?
Looks great. My only criticism is that the main body looks more like leather than copper to me mostly because the phong is very light. Does Valve's bugle use just phong or does it use specular also? I don't play Soldier much so maybe yours is fine compared to Valve's.
I hope those items are going to end just like your mr.Sledge
I personally hope they won't
I'd hate seeing another set of good models be turned into a broken weapon very few people use
Ps. I think you should include the knife even though someone else have done a knife already.
Like other people have said in this competition when they've ended up doing a similar item to another contestant, let the best model win.
Of course, I know you need three, I was just wondering if you were going to do all of those as you'd only need to do the hat to have 3 items, and there's not a lot of time left. I have to agree with Simski, submit the knife anyway it's a good model.

Sucks about losing the texture
dont forget to reduce it to 512x512 before submitting

I just thought it might be a simple thing that might add some extra interest to its visual appeal.

Oh. Well now I feel stupid.

Zipfinator - Ah yes, i was reffering to geom changes, the label would be easy to do but i dont think it would look good at all.
Dr. Waldo Fehr - Thanks, well yeah that is what i would like to do, but people keep asking for revisions on finalised models
Ok, done on the bugle model, i'm going to add the dents in a normal map so don't worry about the damage.
3040 Tri's
Texture next! Huzzah! Toootoooooooot!
why does everything you make look like god damn sexy?
I also hope you submit your knife as a solo separate model, cause it looked great.

I'm so damn hungry!
