you know what I kinda miss? green! your launcher is gray, your radio is gray, its a bit boring colour wise
I disagree, I like the urban camo look to the Launcher and the shape and color variation in the strokes is exciting enough to make a very unique weapon and backpack.

sure the strokes look nice, but the pallet is brown, gray and blue and that is pretty boring. I hope he will ad more hue variation to the strokes in the texture
@laro- Most people didn't say to make a mic/radio handset alone, they said attach it to a bugle model with tape/bolts/belt. then Valve could make it custom sounds/whatever or keep the default just as well.
More than one can win, and then more would be updates later on.
We have no official wording on that they will accept more than one entry as the winner for each class though right?
I find it a terrible shame that so many good modelers are doing Soldier, when their entries would have a bigger chance among one of the other classes with less entries for
Ok, Here's some progress on the rocket launcher. Been modelling straight for 12 hours, just eating and toilet breaks. My elbows and wrists are killing me HAHAHAH. :poly142:
This is really great rocket luncher. I was also thinking about something similar at the first moment. This design has many cons: its simple, its square its recognizable from distance, great execution, keep the good work but first heal you wounds
Boylee - Well, i have to retain the shape of the bugle so it fits in the soldiers hand and mouth. I decided to have mine a copper-brass style wider bugle, i think its different enough in design while similar enough to recognise. For the four barrels thing, it wouldn't work because the soldier would be loading and firing rockets into/from the center of the four holes in both the V and W views which would look bad.
-snip-
I guess so yeah, the silouhette is fairly different. Fair point on the four holes in the launcher. Could be done but it would require custom animations and all sorts. Probably a lot more hassle than it's worth.
The launcher model's looking sweet btw, keep up the good work.
there is one thing I kinda miss, and that's damage+wood. your knife handle had those awesome damaged parts that made it fit great into tf2. It would be really cool if you could add something like that to the rocket launcher. It would add more visual interest and breaks up the cold steel.
EVIL - Thanks for the suggestion however i'd like to keep it nice and dark and solid all over. I'll try to use my texture to break up some of the surface shapes.
Finished the UVs and now getting started on the texture. Got the AO bake done and there's a jigglebone on the back cap Cant jigglebone the front one though because its part of the grip.
I think the colour diffrence between the front part and the rest of the metal is a bit to subtle. but loving the texture, still think it needs a bit more wood.
for tweaks, how about some kill notches?? just something that gives it more character. I'm still finding it a bit cold if you know what I mean
Well that's cool, but how does it make sense in real life to have the grip attached to the lock then !
Not that it's an issue, I just find it amusing.
its not attached to it (I think), but you can't have a jiggly bone bounce off weapon geometry, not asfar as I know, so the front hatch would clip trough the hand.
so to keep a clean looking model its best to remove any chances of stuff clipping.
edit: it is attached to it hehe, but more in the way the grip is attached to the hatch. the grip clicks into a rail of sorts. keeping the grip and hatch in place

Ah, is it not possible to restrict the jigglebone from a certain movement though :O?
(I wouldn't know myself)
Although on second consideration... if the front flap was jiggleboned, the rockets might clip through it when the Soldiers fires a rocket while falling :O
No, not more cool entries for Soldier
There's a big chance only one entry will be chosen for each class, it makes me so sad to see all the people making awesome things for the same class

Soldier is most folks' favorite class in both functionality and personality. It's a concept that lends to a lot of possible things being used in it, with a wide variety of functionality. Thus, some of the best entries are, naturally for the soldier.
I think the class folks have the hardest time with is the scout.

I agree with that, I wish more skilled modelers would give him a go... but I'm guessing it's getting pretty unlikely now

Just textures next.
this is going to kill you or become the best soldier entry so far.
EDIT: or both
THIS!
Don't you mean pros? :poly124:

here is an example of what I mean:

i hope to high heaven that this purdy thing gets into the game
does the pretty lady have a name?
Is he holding the front one or is there some other modeling restriction that made this so :O?
If he's holding it though, then that's fine
He probably means that if he jigglebones it, it will clip trough the hands since its very close to the grip.
Not that I dislike jigglebones but dang every item I have seen someone MUST have jigglebones on the wep one way or another.
That's cool, although impractical if the weapon existed in real life...
How would you close the lid when you're not using it !!
I'm pretty sure VALVEs work flow is that they design a physics engine first, then steps back and decide to build a game around it.
I can't wait to see it all textured up and spiffy looking.
Galago - I took it off because it blocked too much of the fps view. Besides it looks much better without.
Simski - It does exist! I based the design on a M202A1 rocket launcher, it has the grip attached to the the front cap like i did.
Ok im done on the texture for now, just some tweaks later on maybe.

I'd really love to just see a video showing how you do the textures and your concepts man, really am loving it.

Ps. On the subject of making it look more interesting, perhaps you could add a label similar to the one in your reference?
