Alright, while I happen to think they look great, you could have bigger bulbous muzzles on the end of each barrel (example). Dunno how much room you'd have for it, but it could work.
I just happened to have a tablet out whilst browsing your wares, and did a paintover of an idea.
How about: The helmet is still battle worn and torn up, but to break up the symmetry, how about have it sort of patched back together? Like little plates of metal where a chunk is missing.
I agree with woodn, two's better than one right;)
that helmet looks pretty sweet as well, but I think it may look better with just one large cut above the visor.
I prefer a helmet with scratches, but without the torn off piece, and definitely with the grin.
The gun is looking amazing, by the way. Remember that the contest ends in July, so if you're really sick of working on the gun, just wait a week or two before making any last minute changes and hopefully you'll be more eager to work on it then.
Yeah i know that there is still plenty of time left but i start working on monday (draftsman in some engineering company, will improve even more on 3D stuff) and wont have much free time after that so i want to do as much as possible now.
Wow, you really think i dont know about tf2 colour pallette ?
Im bit pissed now, photoshop is refusing to save the texture. Getting this error when i attempt to save. photoshop is taking up 1gb ram too. Never had issues with cs3 but cs4 and cs5 suck so much.
Could not complete the save command because there is not enough memory RAM
Yea, he's been posting that in a lot of threads, apparently he forgot that metal in the game is unpainted
Haha fragus, well i got a bit bored unwrapping it and decided to do some concepts for the second item. Got a few ideas for the name, Bear Baiters Bonnet, Bear Wrestlers Helmet and so on.
Why would you want to ever cover up the heavy's face? He has the most expressive face in the game...My suggestion would be to try and find something that carries your theme without covering his face
It throws players off in terms of hitbox or where abouts inside the hat/helmet is the head actually located.
Hence why only the paper bags were limited time only, and the surgical mask doesn't cover the whole head.
lolwhut?
1. This is the heavy we're talking about. Whom is a much more iconic character; to quote "..the Face of TF2." Not the medic.
2. Sandvich argument (didn't think about this myself but it's a good one as well)
3. hats on top of someone's head are more distracting than hats encompassing someone's head. This is caused from an usual silhouette change than from what is normally seen. Whereas hats encompassing someone's head are a simple "Center of mass."
I'm sure i mentioned this before but with fancy QC trickery and animation you can do what is done with the Hotrod and only make the hat flip down when a certain weapon is out. Anyway i'm getting to modelling the helmet. The spherical shape is scaring me though, i'm REALLY not used to it so its going to be challenging.

Iconic as the heavy is, that doesn't really matter in terms of hats, and I was replying to someone elses reasoning that the mask covers the medics head, when it only covers the lower portion of his head.
Yeah, Sandvich, he can't eat with that helmet on.
It's more serious players that will complain about where to hit on a head+helmet, best try make most people happy or indifferent than happy and others, rage.

But on the Hotrod, it makes sense that it can flip down.
It's a welders mask, they're built that way :O
I currently don't see how your hat would do that in a way that still makes sense, and look good when it's not flipped down.
No offense.
Honestly, that shade of army green is a very nuetral color. I think it fits perfectly.
As for the helmet, I don't find the sandvich eating thing as big as a problem as most people do, but you might want to watch that. I like the idea of the battle damaged mask with steel plates tacked on.
I would say that the green used in the ammo box could use a hint more yellow, resulting in a warmer tone, similar to how Sniper's green scope is used. It is a neutral green in the ammo box, but I think it might fit better by giving it the illusion of being green by manipulating the TF2 palette.
The TF2 palette is a starting point, I'm pretty sure everything in the game has colours not on it. If a colour fits with the colours that are on the palette then it's an A-OK colour to use.
(the syringe gun has green on it, as does the direct hit, off the top of my head)
Seriously, you're taking the color pallet thing way too far. As Y_M said, it's just a starting point or a reference for parts that are team colored. Not every single thing in the game has to be based off of those 16 colors.
Anyway back on topic! Looking great! I'm not entirely in love with the green ammo box but I have no idea of a better color for it. Maybe you could try out having just gray like the ammo pickups in the game?
That model looks excellent, and I like the texture very much as well, but I share the concern over the green. It's not a problem, necessarily, but it is a fact that the TF2 team tries to use colors like green very sparingly. How about this?
This is an ammo box I found with Google image- using this sort of color scheme, you could do team-colored ammo boxes. I couldn't find a good blue one, but I'm thinking you'd want to go with a muted blue-grey color. The important thing is to make it unobtrusive- make it look good, but it shouldn't pop, which is tricky with colors like red and blue.
I think the shield is fine. Only thing sorta bothering me is the coloring. It should be a bit more solid with larger strokes. All the small brush strokes and staining make it look a little out of place as a TF2 weapon.
Direct Hit, Triboniophorus tyrannus, Texas ten gallon, Sergeant's drill hat, Crit-a-Cola. Not including any item made out of metal.
items that do not follow the TF2 "Master" color pallet. The "Master" pallet covers the Solid colors used for teams, nothing more.
This, the master color pallet is really just team based, so green is a great nuetral color, though generally if you applied it, it can go team based with orange and green.
Sorry for the lack of updates guys, was busy over the weekend couldn't work on anything. And i'm not in the proper "health" condition to work on anything today either.
I like the new helmet too, but what happened to this idea? I know in the rules it says that everything needs to be made by you, but you can alter it a bit.
This also fits the worn-out and battle scarred theme.

YES, this is epic my friend. Also the gun looks great! Great progress!

This is actually the best argument for not covering his face.
It throws players off in terms of hitbox or where abouts inside the hat/helmet is the head actually located.

Yea, things like that are said about games like sonic in 3D. And we all know how well that turns out.
Iconic as the heavy is, that doesn't really matter in terms of hats, and I was replying to someone elses reasoning that the mask covers the medics head, when it only covers the lower portion of his head.

replaces the sandvich/shotgun/chocolat and gives some stats like :
X % reduced damage from headshot (sniper, huntsman, ambassador)
A little lackluster in stats but it would solve the can't eat sandvich problem
But on the Hotrod, it makes sense that it can flip down.

theres no green on that palette, but you put it on your gun?
also swizzle breaks down tf2 texturing pretty well: (3rd to last post on the page):

The green fits perfectly imho

IMO, weapon number 3:
+When crouch +30% more defense from bullets and explosion (if not, 10%?)
-30% slow start spin
-bullet per second on 3/4
items that do not follow the TF2 "Master" color pallet. The "Master" pallet covers the Solid colors used for teams, nothing more.
Anyway I found this and thought it might help as it seems to fit the style you're going for.

This, with the bottom of the faceplate cut off (possibly in a jagged line) so you can see his mouth /+ Nose.
Make an animation for it for while the heavy is in idle/moving it stays up. When he's revving the minigun it folds down.
I like the new helmet too, but what happened to this idea? I know in the rules it says that everything needs to be made by you, but you can alter it a bit.

and 2. I play Heavy a LOT now a days and I need this for him its too amazing not to be in the game the hat included
You best win
