Well i decided to just leave the top of the hat blank and have the leaf on the side.
And as a added bonus i thought i would just leave this here. I was getting footage of a video i will be doing of the items and decied to stop off and get a nice pose with the Toothache.
I'd say bring back the markings, or go with a texture more like the real thing. Right now it looks like he's wearing a wooden elf cap. The green leaf on the top adds to that.
I say forget the hat for now and make that Misc Item (The Bushman's Rule) you mentioned way back in the first post, it sounded pretty sweet.
Yes, that i agree with. At least i know this idea will work out good.
But before i do, here was my last idea for the hat. Since the it was similar to the Jarate headband i added a little piece of carved wood that would sport some sort of aboriginal design.
That isn't really archetypal aboriginal head wear either. I'm kind of struggling to think of what would be a better option. During ceremonies and corroborees and such like they usually wear lots of body paint, but there isn't really any kind of hat that everyone wears thats common across enough tribes for it have become archetypal.
You might need to think a bit laterally for this one. If you had the kind of animal and plant materials that are available in the Australian bush and wanted to make a hat suitable for battle in TF2, what would you make? How about an echidna hat?

i was thinking of something like this from this guys qoute sorry looks budget im not good at that stuff but like so that the crocs not all wasted and it looks like the croc is eating him lol and maybe you could take all its teeth out so then it looks like you have used the teeth for the toothache
Man, has this pack progressed since the last time I was here. I love how your new melee weapon turned out, but yea, the original hat just doesn't seem like it'd work in TF2 at all. I think it'd be funny to give the Sniper an alternate hairstyle with the headband like the Demoman gets with his 'Fro.
A little small, are the teeth another character's?
The teeth were modeled in a rough scale next to the snipers mouth. So the teeth are based off the Snipers teeth. Do you think i could go bigger with the teeth? Would anyone notice them being out of scale?
Much better. Maybe the central tooth could be the largest one. Maybe a tusk.
Well i wanted the emphasis to be more the on human teeth than the animal fangs. I thought the two big animal teeth next to it will help with the scaling issues of the center tooth and teeth around it.
nice idea on the tooth necklace i had a idea of that a while back but was too lazy to start it. Bush man rules has to be its name.
Haha. so have I. My friend purposed the idea to me about a month ago but i have never had the time to do it. Thank god it fits with this theme or it would of got delayed even more.
By the way guys, I just had a quick question. Is there a poly limit for misc items? I feel like a little high on polys on the necklace.
it was my idea a while back cause im a sniper freak i was listening to the things the sniper says and im like huh trey wouldnt it be cool if you made a necklace out of teeth like what the sniper says here and then call it the bushmans rules

I think misc shares he same as hats, but I could be wrong.
Now THATS a real bushman. That pretty much finishes up my pack. I will keep adding stuff until the contest is over but there are my required 3 pieces done!! I will be making the Vikings Helm missing horn version of the bushmans rule next. Then who KNOWS what i'm going to make!
Wonderful job man, thats really nice! I love that necklace! LOLs remindes me I named one of my caps Bushman's Bounty! LOL hes such a funny guy, sniper I mean. Wait i have a question, do you know what this means?
Dude, this pack is great and I think it'll win. Since You are doing a hat, I think you should make the first hat you made. The head band is like the jarate belt, its sort hard to see. That is just my opinion.
I love the idea! How did you see me incorporating it into the headband? I would much rather have it as another misc item, but i am not completely closed to the idea of modifying my headband.
Haha its funny you say it was practiced in New Zealand, i actually live in New Zealand.
I will try to model a shrunken head and see where i can incorporate it!

Yeah me too..
I started to play around with the textures. I'm not happy with it atm, but its a good start I guess.

i really dont want the hat to be the weakspot of this entry for you
but this version just doesn't sit right with me for some reason :C
I think the hat needs a re-do, man, to be honest. Or leaves all over it to make it look like he uses it for 'camouflage'.
If you re-do, here's some aboriginal peoples-
I know what you mean..
Im not so sure such a hat looks good in TF2.
I started to mock up another hat, do you think this one looks better?
Based off this:
Btw, i will finish up the other hat too, no sense in letting it go to waste.

But thats for any day.
ON WARD TO THE BRUSHMAN'S RULE

Maybe it could be the missing horn from the Tyrant's helm?
Hahah this is genius. Defiantly going to try this.

Thats what i was going off anyway, so i guess i'm fine.
Better? Worse?
It took me three hours just to get these stupid bones to line up and for me to compile the Bushmans Rule in-game. Wow.
Now all i have to do is make my Phong mask and my pack is pretty much done!

My hats off to awesome person!
Nice work on finishing the pack! Even if they don't win it's very unlikely your stuff won't get put in for future update (there will be many).
Since i knew what i was going for i went ahead and finished up the Headband model and texture.
My next step is to try and fix the other hat i had. Hopefully i can get it looking better...
Thats pretty much it for me i guess. Unless i have some stroke of genius for another item i think thats my pack all summed up and finished!
Making a fake update poster?
I snap, I just thought of a cool extra item you could submit or modify onto you headband - a Shrunken Head. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headhunting
Headhunting was practiced in New Zealand (close enough to Oz for it to be in the pack of Aboriginal items imo).
Then you could call it the Headhunter's Headband or Headhunter's Headdress.
It could also be a reference to Beetlejuice http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beetlejuice by making the shrunken head look like this ghost guy-
I love the idea! How did you see me incorporating it into the headband? I would much rather have it as another misc item, but i am not completely closed to the idea of modifying my headband.

I was thinking it would be tied onto that central wooden piece of the headband, like up a bit above the band itself.
Glad to see a friendly Kiwi on here, one of my brother's best buds in Japan happens to be Kiwi.
A shrunken head would, imo, make this the most popular Sniper hat in game. And it fits Sniper perfectly! HeadHunting is his calling after all.
Haha, I might just make a separate hat for the Shrunken heads.
I dont know if its just me, but real shrunken heads kinda are a little disturbing. Eyes glued shut and lips sewed together..
I will post progress once i have made some!
