Thanks man, the black thing is supposed to be a Spys knife that has been dug into the didgeridoo.
I'm going to get Sparkwire to make a septate version that does not have it, seeing as;
A. There is a rule against using Valves models and coping and pasting.
B. As it is now, its kinda funny looking
C. Having it removed was one of the only things people seemed to agree on in the last stages of feedback.
I love the idea of it, but it think it might just complicate the model further.
Ah, I see, that's what that was. Removing it was definitely a good move, it's a point of interest but the weapon is very elaborate as is, doing more would go overboard, I think it's perfect in it's current state.
To be honest, when I first heard your idea, the whole aboriginal theme, I didn't really care for it. I come back on a whim to see how it's going... and hot damn that rifle... dart... thing... looks awesome! Way to totally prove me wrong
Haha, well i'm glad i won you over!
I'm hoping the machete will be 100x more badass than the Didgeri-Die (At least the image of the machete in my head is 100x more badass than the didgeri-die).
I will post the name and some sort of crude progress of it tomorrow!
Btw, if no one guessed, i decided to make my models from most difficult to most easiest. I knew the didgeri-die would be the hardest of the 3 to make so i started with that! A little fun fact, the Didgeri-Die is my first weapon model every!!
Now that i have the pipeline down the machete will be a piece of cake. And the hat should take no more than a day or two, iv made enough hats that i could do it in my sleep!
I hope this didn't come off too arrogant, I just wanted to mark a milestone with the project. Also, thanks to everyone for the feedback! Couldn't have done it without your ideas! Also a huge thanks to Sparkwire for the animations and rigging, saved me allot of time fumbling around, trying to export from Maya.
You should probably stick with the original reload animation, have it move less, or come down slightly while pulling the bolt. Seems a bit awkward when it hit you in the face.
LOVe ur rifle, the giggle bone, the tribe man feel of it, everything! good job!
so what is next? (i have no idea what that piece of wood is though, melee?)
is nice, the scratch and stuff, but not as interesting as ur rifle.
keep going!
Hey guys, sorry for the delay in the melee weapon. My melee weapon turned out to be VERY tedious and is taking alot longer than i wanted. In the mean time here is what the final version of the rifle will most likely look like. Im still going to go in and fix up those out lines of the tribal characters and maybe add more dots and such.
I'm just asking here, but if you've got jigglebones on the scope,so that it looks cool rotating with your every movement, how would you be able to aim straight?

I guess when you zoom in the sniper keeps the scope steady by slowing his movement down so it doesn't jerk around as much. Thats why you walk slower when you are scoped in.
Wow that didge sniper looks awesome! Melee weapon too! Keep up the good work! Although the strap on the uppermost teeth looks sorta weird when they're stashed together like that. I know that how you would make it based on the shape of the body, but it looks weird as of now..

Yeah, i know what you mean. IF i had made them go straight across it would have looked funny too.
I will see what i can do, but i think thats the best i can do for now, unless someone has an idea to fix it.
I love that fact that even though it doesn't have a blade, the default animations make it look like he is creating a saw type effect with the teeth as he swings. It looks like it would REALLY hurt to be hit with this thing.
"...now THIS is a club"
the belt like thing that ties the rock to the stick looks a bit bulky ATM.
Yeah, its the folding over of the end closest to the sniper that covers up the other screw and shows off the block backside, i might just remove it and see how it looks.
Looking great! Honestly I like the club much better before the lizard design was added. The design really doesn't look that TF2ish to me. In fact I don't think any designs like that belong in TF2. I'd suggest just texturing it more like the Alpine theme rock formations. Although I'm the only one who's disliked the design so far so you don't have much reason to change it.
perhaps you can curve it all the way around the handle, and make it look more like a leather-belt, maybe with a buckle?
Yeah, someone suggested the belt idea at the top of the page and i will probably do it. It would make sense really. The Sniper kills a Croc, fashions its skin into a belt and uses to make a weapon out of its teeth.
I think I'm with Zipfinator on this one. The crocodile design looks nice in itself, but for my money isn't working so well on the club. I'd probably keep the design pretty simple. Maybe just a simple dot pattern at the top above the leather straps. It really doesn't need any more than that.
To address the green being to bold i ask this, would team colored crocs be less bold? Should it be a darker/ligher shade of green? I think it looks good how it is, but am still would like to see what you want it too look like.
About the croc being to much, the whole reason for the croc was to make it more aboriginal. I do think that the croc fits well, and makes it more fitting to my theme. I will try out some more simpler designs and see what everyone thinks.
And with the belt idea all thanks should go to Khthon for the idea.
Here is my stab at making the rock held on my a belt.
Am i on the right track? Also are the tears and cuts working, or is it too much?
Just go back to the design before the crocodile stuff was added entirely it looks so much better and fits TF2 so well, the one with the designs I don't think there's much you can do as it looks far to overcrowded.
Just go back to that design it still fits the theme you're making the weapons for anyway.
Well while I don't know how it would fit with the palette, my color sense indicates a slightly browner tint of green with less saturation, something slightly less acrylic looking.
Team colored wouldn't offend me one bit though, and might look pretty cool.

Something like this?
I turned down the saturation and added a brown multiplying layer with a low opacity.
Team colored wouldn't offend me one bit though, and might look pretty cool.
Keep in mind that these are quick 5 minute color adjustments done to the stone design layer i have in photoshop, also note i did not have a tf2 color pallet in front of me at the time of making this as well.
But do these look like they might work? (Minus the florescent green and purple dots of course)
Trey you should go back to the orginal design of the club without the aboriginal paintings, it looks far to overcrowded, the original design looks awesome and fits tf2 much better, also it still fits your theme superbly so there's no issue.

Please ignore the sound. Again i thank Sparkwire for the animations and rigging, couldn't have done it without him!
I'm scared
God I also laughed hard, but I think its just Sparkwire being himself.
It's coming along well though.
The Australian Toothache
12 razor sharp crocodile teeth.
High strength cow leather, and custom made latches.
The only aching these teeth will do is to the enemy.
Yeah, going to have some cool Aboriginal designs on the sides of the rocks. Also still working on handle.
Its supposed to be a metal bracket, similar to the ones used in necklaces to hold a crocodiles tooth on a string.
Also note that the texture above was only a test. The UV will have to be re-organized once i add the handle, so that texture will change.
and a kangaroo with a lizard
Thanks dude! I will defiantly be referencing those later on!
Any suggestions?

As for the handle, the little stump twig thing might get in the way of his hand.
Maybe the handle could have a leather belt wrapped around it (maybe crocodile leather).

Still working on a cool abo design that will be on the rock.
Yeah, i know what you mean. IF i had made them go straight across it would have looked funny too.

Here is a close up of the design.

edit- Oh and I like the aboriginal crocodile design, nice wear and tear on it, too.
Also could use of a specular map.

Thanks again for the refs man. That croc skin on will defiantly be handy when i texture the belt.

I think a lower saturation blue might be better, but yeah I like it. Maybe make the white seem less defined? Like, chalky or smeared?
like so?
Very true. For some reason i'm really digging the brown tinted croc. I'm probably going to go for that.
Any feedback on the belt so far?
