Exactly! I find the concept really interesting, but I'm curious as to how its executed. FRAGUS! WAKE UP AND ANSWER ME
It fires when performing a backstab, I posted a little pic here a while ago explaining, you can't fire it like a normal gun, but when backstabbing it fires one shot and gives you a boost

I can't believe it took me this long to think of this... but I've thought of what its advantage/disadvantage should be. Disadvantage, there is a delay between backstabs (assuming it doesn't failstab. A reg stab doesn't trigger the delay.)
And advantage? Can successfully backstab an ubered target. Awwwwww yeaaaaah.

Also, It could be a really loud gun, so the spy would give away his position. (like the Dead Ringer, and Sandvich)
Stats are for fun people!
Uh, I'm sure someone is still going to post "dont discus statz hear"
i say you make it a very basic colour, not too much texture, but you add the subtle like wraping marks around the edge because they are rolled. also the gold button is a must.
Make is sound more like a cap-gun as it would be quite a small bullet, probably close to a .22 round.
But, to be fair, the sound would not be muffled at all. There would be no large barrel or frame to absorb the noise. Plus, louder is cooler. And that's what matters =P
You should try to get the knife into the game so you can check if custom animations are needed. I actually don't think you would, your knife could work like the butterfly knife coming out.

Your wider handle might still be a problem though.

The first sound ends too abruptly. All but that one and maybe the last work for me.

Probably the second.
Interesting. The knife swing and crit sound are exactly identical in all of them- I made them using Audacity. The only change was the gun noise, and what I did was use different weapons. The first is the Revolver. The second is the Ambassador. Third is a custom Ambassador sound, and fourth is a custom Pistol sound. If anyone has a request for other weapon mock-ups, I could do it.
Almost did sniper rifle, but that seemed a little TOO pointed.
You should probably stick to the spy's guns. The point of the gun is so people know there is a spy around, and to be super shiny
Maybe a bullet from the SMG could work. Maybe.

If you have a sound editing program, would it be possible to make one of the HL/CS/TF2 sounds higher/lower pitched as to make sure it doesn't sound exactly like the weapon you're borrowing sounds from?
Dauphin's Demise release candidate (download link). It's the .357, with modified pitch, bass, compression, and other stuffs. I think it sounds different and distinct in TF2, but we'll see.
Note, if this actually is the one you want, I'll still have to make some changes- it might be necessary to upload the gunshot sound by itself. The problem is, there is no real sound file for backstabs landing. Whenever you do a backstab, it plays knife_swing_crit.wav, whether it hits or not. If it does hit, it plays crit_hit.wav, which is a generic file for every class. The problem is that if I attach the gunshot to the knife_swing_crit.wav, it'll play even if the swing misses.
So it would either have to be a scripted thing that plays on a successful backstab, or one of the weapon's stats would have to be that it didn't failstab- i.e., that if you had a backstab lined up when you hit fire, the backstab would land even if the other guy moved. And that's just a little ridiculous =P
Yeah, 2shared is a pretty lousy upload site. Anyone else having trouble, there's a little blue link near the bottom that says "Save file to your PC: click here". That's what you want.
It sounds like someone's farting :P
EDIT: I like the second sound from the first video clip, it's more authentic and TF2!
Someone... farting... I demand satisfaction for this insult, ser! =P
I got no problem making one using the second sound from the first vid, but like I say... that's the Ambassador. So it will sound very much like a weapon that's already in the game, and that could well be a problem.
EDIT: Got a little work done on Release Candidate 2, the Ambassador. Here's a comparison of the sound files, side by side- the top is the Dauphin, the bottom is the original Ambassador firing sound.
As you may or may not be able to tell (I can't, but I ain't hardly a pro) I've sped up the sound by 25%, boosted the bass a little (the speeding it up makes it higher pitched) and added a little echo, as well as a few other minor touches. Still not totally happy with it, it sounds pretty similar. Maybe I'll try making a Frankenstein out of pieces of several different firing sounds.
LOL JK I was going to make a knife-gun for spy untill i switched to sniper. Hmmm, what do I use? Knife? Gun? (puts together) KNIFE-GUN!
Well, lookes great anyway, keep it up man.
I might provide some sounds when I get m/yh comp back if it gets back in time.
And for the cigar label, name it king of kings and have a spy hold a ambassador in each hand andcross them,
Make the edges gold, the rest of the stuff as in icon is up to you.
A funny attempt of me and Insaneicide to make a view model. The animations are from the Ambassador and no, the spy will hold it like a normal knife. This is just a test.

Nice! Now you just need one for backstab, looks like. Could do one that looks basically like the regular backstab, but also has the bullet trail going through the gut (like in the headshot icon) to indicate the gunshot.
Ok, so out of boredom I made a little electro (band wagon) gun. By band wagon I mean the "home made" style of the weapon. Don't worry this will not go in the pack, I'm just messing around.

A single bullet is fired during a back-stab. I don't quite get it either.
It looks nice though.

Final version ever?
Now you have the problem of animations. That isn't a butterfly knife, so you need custom ones. You think you can get sparkwire to help?

it should sound like a classic tranquilizer/silenced pistol hollywood style
Here's some sounds for instance-

oh god, i can put that on my resume :P
nawh it's just a bit of fun for me to mess around and see if i can duplicate the ingame ones ect
plus if it helps people out it's a big bonus
