Except that first book is over 13 years old already and Martin is not some 3l1t3 highbrow reading.
There's no real excuse to be that mad at spoilers if you couldn't handle respective book material between TV series. They seriously give anyone enough time between seasons to read & appreciate the way superior book narrative & much deeper (as if it existed in TV series at all) character development.
Or how about going to the bilbo movie thread and talking spoilers, I mean, that book is over 70 years old, everyone and their grandmother should've read it by now, and enders game? almost 30 years, that's fair game then right?
The reason we do like the gentlemen in this thread do (spoilertag spoilers) is because we do not want people to act like every other elitist group does, everyone should be able to enjoy things their own way even though there might be prequels or predecessors or other formats come before.
I do not read books for the same reason others might choose to play console games over pc games, it's a choice even though I might personally think they're missing out on something, I still think they're allowed to enjoy it, and I'm a better person if I prevent myself from spoiling someone if there's something new out.

omg @ nerds these days if they never read Tolkien tbh.

I was referring to "make a separate thread 4 ur damn book spoilers" rant. I have no problem with marking spoilers with an appropriate tag.
Man, what a good episode. I will now be power-reading until the start of next season. I'm 1/4 of the way through book 3, but I'd like to have all the ones that are available read by the time the new season starts.
book 4 is much more of a "build up" book. it introduces so many new characters and explores various locales that are integral to the events of book 5. not to mention, if i remember rightly the first half of book 4 happens at the same time as the last half of book 3, so a lot of the characters that are introduced are done so for two reasons:
1. to give context to some of the events in book 3.
2. to give context to characters you've only previously heard about through the various chapter perspectives.
also, wtf snow? He just booked it. I hope ygritte shoots him next time she sees him.
tv spoilers again:
wish granted! Glad she didn't kill him, I'm curious to see how their unfinished business will be resolved in the coming season/s. Most interesting character relationship at the moment for me. And now the wait begins.

Thats true Gir just when I was reading the third book
they started going on about the whitewalkers and stannis showing up to the wall etc. Thought thats where the story was headed but instead was Sansa stark and Daenerys bitching :P Again its been a while since i read it so might be coming the 5th and 4th book events in my head.
Though I didn't mind getting all the backstory and stuff with their motives/plans
if i remember rightly the first half of book 4 happens at the same time as the last half of book 3
You slightly off there, gir. The majority of book 4 takes place at the same time as the first 3/4 of book 5. There is no overlap between books 3 and 4, but tons of overlap between books 4 and 5.
Book 4 is quite slow. It deals with a lot of areas that simply didn't get as much attention in the previous novels. It also does a better job of showing the aftermath of the war of the five kings from the perspective of the commoners.
Oh boy, house of Lanister will be intresting watch. :P
Also, man do i just despise that Joefrey guy....but, on the other hand, i have go give him credits, the actor is i think by far the best of the series....just the facial expression of him looks seriously annoying. So yeah, great actor....
Also, great episode, but maaan, waiting for one freakin year will be quite a pain in teh rear....
not quite what I expected for the finale but there were some nice scenes. Tywin/Joffrey definitely. Arya's little stunt was also nice. Also nice closing scene
Am I the only one indifferent with how the King died ? I spoiled myself that he was gonna die, but not how. When it happened, I was just .... so... ok... BTW, who did it !?
it was foreshadowed even more heavily than the first big one. It was bound to happen sooner than later and as the episode wound on it was really just a question of who and how.
it is written much more viscerally in the books than the way it happened in the show, and in book 2 they go to great lengths to describe just how brutal that particular way to go is.
Really they could've spent an entire episode on that one scene alone (I've read the books now); I think they did an excellent job with the time available.
I was kinda disappointed. As much as I hated him... I kinda wanted him to stick around season after season. George Martin has a way of screwing with his fans. Gotta respect that. That's certainly one way to keep things fresh.
Also, here's an interesting interview with Jack Gleeson regarding last night's episode.
He's retiring as an actor lol. Good way to go out I suppose.
Regarding the retirement, that's a real shame! I hope he does come back from time to time if a role interests him enough. People tend to change their mind a lot so it may not be permanent. He was really great, always made every scene he was in very uncomfortable.
I love this show, but man, sometimes the story seems all over the place. Based on what I had read of the first book, as well as the first few episodes, I assumed the show would be all about Winter coming and the whitewalkers. Instead I get to see Daenerys taking over various desert cities for several seasons. I'm not complaining, I think the show is great, I would enjoy it even without the hitns at this bigger plot, but I'm wondering when some of that whitewalker stuff (or Daenerys for that matter) will actually have an impact on the majority of the characters and the plot.

I think the plan is for everything to come together in a giant glorious clusterfuck at the very end of the series.
Yeah but aren't you tired of waiting? I like the show but daaaaaaamn it's slow. After each episode all the important bits can be summarized in one sentence...

For those having only read the first book, you know nothing of what's to come, each character storyline has a critical role in how it'll all play together in the end. Each episode has so much going on, there are so many subtle clues and hints and things to pay attention to, IMO. Not to mention that the ending of the last episode is almost a huge spoiler, even for those who read the books. I was kind of shocked.

@Johnny: Book 4 might be a bit boring or atleat i felt that way. Well after the roller coaster that is the 3rd book
