really cool buildings you got their, i would like to see more of the animations though. like what the upgrade animations looks like in game, and the initial deploy from toolbox animation.
Here's my latest poster i've painted up... the color bit came thru brighter than expected tho. I'll give it another pass in a bit... I've also packaged up a new copy of the map if anyone would like to give it a spin locally. We'll have it up on the polycount server here soon.
Hey people! If you wanna see the building animations, you can search on Y! for early Lucy buildings, i made videos of the sentry and dispenser being built.
Well hoi, guyz. You have a new recruit, but a very intimidated one. Y'see, I stopped just short of refining and sending my hat in when I thought it might do to stop and look around for some advice on how to properly go about this. And then I spent an hour reading this thread and now I'm blind. So much to absorb... details, jargon, HLMV tricks and what's all this about diffuse maps? Do I need to know how to do that? Oh, man.
Anyway, here's the mod:
While I do have a few questions about specific aspects of it that I need to improve (yeah, smoothing errors a-go-go), but I thought that I'd first solicit some opinions beforehand. Crits, comments, PLEASE.
That's awesome. Are you able to loosen the jiggle bones up a little so you get a bit more movement in the pupils? You obviously don't want them flying everywhere, but just enough to make the movement noticable with regular noodling about.
Haha Battery, I have never seen a Hat for TF2 I loved as much as those googly eyes. How well does it work on other classes besides the Pyro I wonder.
it would probably only work on the engineer, because he wears goggles. it fits inside the eye cylinders. It probably couldn't work well shoving in someones eye socket. it wouldn't stay perfectly circle any way.

Well, I meant more as full face goggles since obviously it would look odd to have black disks crammed into their eye sockets. :poly142:
Haha, that is awesome :P
Is it going straight to the contribution site, or will you upload it somewhere so people can download it for usage in their own games?
Reminds me of those small glue-on eyes we put on things in kindergarten, if you're familiar with what I mean :O
Isn't that what you did for the Pyro or does he already have jiggle bones in his eyes or something?
if i made it for every class, i would have to model goggles to fit each class. and i dont really want to take the time to model 7 different pairs of goggles. Also googly eyes wouldn't fit the other classes personality's as well as it does the pyro.

Im not sure how i am going to release it yet. it seems like alot of people really want it. but i think public releases reduce the chance of it being chosen by valve. Im not really sure if that's true, or why i think that.
and yes it is based off those little glue on plastic eyes.

WHY DO PEOPLE THINK THIS? This isn't directly aimed at you AAA_BATTERY it's just an example of this, everyone on polycount who's made items and put them in here and polypack entrants who didn't release their models after the results.
The Dalokohs bar and Homewrecker were released as mods/skins for TF2 a long time before they made into the game. Please dont hesitate to release weapons, hats etc before contributing them, I'm very certain the great popularity of the Mr Sledge(Homewrecker) and of all Benjamuffin's(Author of the D Bar) mods on FPSBananna helped their success in becoming official items.
Just an FYI for all you part-time modellers/ TF2 fans
EDIT: Turns out The Scotman's Scullcutter, Sergeant's drill hat were also released as mods long before added too

I know that their have been a few that have been publicly released, and still accepted by valve, but the majority of community items were never publicly released, so that's what makes me assume. and i have already decided to release it publicly anyway, I don't think it stands much of a chance with valve, its to overly silly IMO.
And i also agree its a shame that almost no one released their polycount packs. I released one of my weapons, but not the whole pack. because the other two weapons werent all that great.
Edit: does anyone see anything could be improved on for my googly eyes, or should i call it done and upload it fpsbanana?
I've run into a problem on Blender. Just the other day it was working perfectly fine, but today for some reason NONE of the Numpad key functions work, and I have no idea what they are doing. The only key on the numpad that does something noticeable is "7" but instead of going to Top view like it is supposed to, it does an odd slight zoom out. Other functions are also acting strange too, but I'm mainly concerned about the issue with the numpad hotkeys. Anyone have any idea what could be wrong?
I think the googly eyes are pretty awesome as is, I'm looking forward to seeing many googly eyed pyros.

I wouldn't say it's any more silly than a bunch of hats stacked up, or an Elvis hat, or an alien for a hat... And the last one was made by Valve!
I think your hat would have a very strong possibility of being accepted by valve. Especially if you give them a clever name!
I think it looks fine as it is, can't think of anything more you could add to improve it.
Like many people have said, many people feel rather sad that a lot of your creations go directly to the submissions page rather than make them available to the community. It may be true that a lot of the items that have been picked as community weapons were from the submission page only, but a lot of other creations that has got in have also been available to the public.
The Dalakohs, The Homewrecker, The Skullcutter, and the Killer's Kabuto were put up for download before they were made official.
I also feel that some of the things you guys create would serve more purpose as community mods. Some of the items you make are stunning, but unfitting the TF2 theme in terms of time period, silliness, or character personality.
Items like this would be much better if you submitted both to the community page and for the people to download. Because then if your item doesn't make it in, your hard work won't have been wasted because a lot of people will still love using your creation. Doing this will often make your name more known to the community as cool modeler, and a good reputation will probably make Valve recognize you and your creations better.
@ swizzle -___- wow I can't believe I didn't think of that, I kinda feel like an idiot now, thank you though.
I made a knife for the sniper but the problem is I can't compile it. I had a trial version of Milkshape which expired a little while back and I currently lack the funds to purchase a copy. I hope it's not too much to ask, but could someone here compile it for me? I would be very grateful. I have the texture and the modeling done, so if someone would be willing, here's a download link to the .smd's and texture (instant download): http://filesmelt.com/dl/sniperknife.zip
I submitted the googly eyes to valve, and will upload it to fps banana tomorrow morning after I get some screenshots.
Good luck, man! I look forward to collecting that hat... Though I think it would make a great Misc. item as well, since you could technically wear it with any hat.

Fully Building Pack "Floral Defence". Will be released as clent-side skins... if valve will not do it.
Good job.

What did you end up calling it?
You're the best. :-)

Apparently with the new update, you can buy/sell your custom hats/weapons
Also, VALVe said they removed idling so no one could get items instantly... yeah, that's not completely useless now(!)
