@Ducksink
Well I wouldn't have thought to put a ninja hood on Pyro (if that's what it's supposed to be). It's not that the face you gave Pyro is bad, but I have my doubts about Valve accepting something that shows off any of his face. Maybe try to show less face? Maybe just the eyes and have the rest of his face in shadow if you can?
didn't someone already do a riding whip for the soldier in on of the initial polycount packs based off of General Pattons whip he carried around, also i think someone made a jockey pack for the scout with a riding whip as the replacement for the bat.
@ronin i like the greek pattern (even though troy is located in turkey (ionia)) you could call it the Trojan Terror, or Trojan Man like the trojan condoms and have a text like "you wont have to worry about premature explosions with this on"
Also to whomever is doing the Hockey hat for the heavy i have a text you could use

Well, I don't think valve would accept anything as long as it doesn't look like pyros mask, so I doubt i'll even submit this, it was just really fun to work with.
Plus I have used both female and male references for the face and nose if that matters.
@Roninmastermix: Very nice, but as Jzeeba said, some holes will make it look even better, Also I would add a patturn to the plume holder with slight edge wear , maybe something like this:
That would make it stand out more in my opinion.
@ColonelBD & @Jzeeba. Thanks for the wonderful feedback. I'll try and see what i can do with the holes. I'm planning on adding them at the plume holder and the frame on top with the greek pattern. I doubt that i can still add them patterns on the plum holder since those vertices are really stretched. I'll try these suggestions after i finish with my Custodian Pack
A little update while the youtube vid is still uploading. New color scheme. Finally got to apply the ambassador finish on it. Very shiny. Need your opinion on that.
@ronin, hey man, the v_model of the nade launcher looks pretty good, if I were you, I would work on the texture more, get rid of the green scope (it doesn't fit with tf2 very well, look at the sniper scope ) Also, try to choose like 3 metal colors from this palette to theme you GL:
As for wood, look at textures like the sandman, or the force of nature.

I'd suggest keeping in mind that these color swatches are more like guidelines than anything else. Those metal sample colors are ones I took from actual TF2 textures, but they're only meant to be a representative sample of colors other than 100% desaturated gray that the metal textures use; they are NOT comprehensive texture samples from all weapon models in the game.

True true, I would definitely note to Ronin, mainly all the metal textures have a tad of color, not just straight gray...
I was giving this little palette to you because sometimes I just choose one of those colors and just change the color slider.
dude. the wings are good. the animation is wrong, however. you should make them flap in a steady flapping motion so they're always flapping as he's running, jumping, attacking, etc....get the idea?

The animation is raeally only testing within Blender.
When I figure out how to import character animations into Blender, I can sync them up with various movements.
tone down the phong! it's far to shiny
and if you're gonna have it paintable make the base textures white, and make it so it doesn't effect everything, maybe just the flower
also the normalmap might be a little muc, but it'l brobably be ok if you just toe down the phong
ColonelBD, I think the single real problem you have is that it isn't different enough from the standard syringe gun. I had this same problem with my Polycount Pack. If I were you, I'd suggest looking at guns with different types of magazines to get an idea of some things you could do to differentiate it significantly from the original syringe gun.
@Jzeeba - Dude, people are asking if the Furious will have a second style that in which the straw is painted (properly at that) and not just the strings? Just curious for the furious.
The wings and dragon mask are a little too large. I'd actually cut the wings down to 50% of that size, and the mask maybe make it look like it's a halloween mask instead. Right now it looks more like you're trying to model a new character over the old one.

The wings are a bit large, but the mask is based off of a paper mache chinese dragon mask, and built to not clip the pyro's head. (except for that blasted air filter on the side) It was built before the Foster's Facade made head replacement possible.
This video of the mask shows a cut-away view, and you can see it isnt THAT large.
Hey guys, I've been watching everybody's progress for a while, just wanted to say hello, and congrats to all of those that have had their items accepted.
I just installed 3d max for the first time. (This should be fun)
I originally came here to find someone to assist me in making a TF2 hat, but I'm considering giving it a try on my own now!
Any tips or suggestions for someone that is just starting?
@roninsmastermix - I hadn't even thought about a second style, I remember I did some tests before submitting it and it didn't look very good with the whole hat painted... but I'll have another look at it. Also, nice launcher!, the smoothing looks a bit odd in that image though (bottom row, middle one).
Glad you guys like the hair. What I meant with the not recognizable is that it isn't quite as Rambo as Rambo's hair is, so when you got a blue bandana and a colored hair you're probably won't make the connection.
Observe
Also, the lighter colors really show just how unfinished the hair is.
@Roninmastermix:
Looks like you didn't edgesplit all the edges.
Got my syringe shotgun ingame, happily there is no major clipping issues, biggest ones I can see is that his fingers poking through the tank slightly, and in 1st person the butt is going into his knuckles.
I'm at 7618 tris accourding to HLMV, so I can't add anything too major without going over. However still any C&C would be apreciated:).
Im also worried about how this would play from a gameplay perspective, its about 2 thirds longer the syringe gun and blutsauger. Plus the power this thing could pack, I don't want it turning into the medics FaN.

seems kinda unbalanced and front heavy considering how it is being held.
also can you atleast slap AO bake or just a grey texture on it for hlmv it's hard to make out with the source framebuffer tex all over it.
Replies
@ColonelBD - nice!, it reminded me of the syringes in one of the SAW movies for some reason :P

@Ronin The Great British bobby doesn't carry a fire arm! He carries a short wooden truncheon. Of course valve might not be clued up to this
As for wood, look at textures like the sandman, or the force of nature.
ColonelBD: I would love to kill scouts with that syringegun...
Here's something I've been working on. I haven't done much with the texture yet.

Yay! More wings!
I've been going for the mechanical look to go with my Dragon Mask.

Anything I can add to the model, or any obvious problems?

If someone made a fireworks replacement for the flaregun, it would be amazing with it.
The normal map is definitely excessive, would work just fine without it.
Anyway, on topic of bandanas,
This is not quite as recognizable as I would've liked.
Also, guy had a bow, right, so this is the obvious choice(???)
No? I recognized it in about one second. Cracked me up, great job I luv it.
It's awesome, by the bye.
Finally able to continue working on the "scopeless" version of my launcher. Trimmed it down a bit as well. Still texturing as i type this.
I just installed 3d max for the first time. (This should be fun)

@Svdl - awesome Rambo hair!
Reworked my syringegun, now with 100% more battery:
I've done a scale check so the syringe tank shouldn't clip, but I want to get it ingame first to make sure.
Observe
Also, the lighter colors really show just how unfinished the hair is.
Here's another unfinished thing I got.
@roninsmastermix
What's going on here?
Looks like you didn't edgesplit all the edges.

Anyone have any suggestions for the strap? I don't really like what I've got right now.
The Rambo hair SHOULD NOT be paintable. Please please please, Stallonify that thing 4 EVA!
That soldier hat should be in the game NOW. I do want to see more of that thing on top. I can't make it out if its a medal, or a button or a ribbon.
As for my launcher, i think its the rim boost. I'll take a look at that later. Taking a little break from modeling. I'll be back on monday for these.
Will submit it tonight
I've scaled down the syringetank. How does it look now?
