the hands will be taken from the ingame version of the grandpa, so they are a bit more beefed up already, i just plugged something in to have something there
as for the gaiters, i'm not sure i kinda liked the flow they have, it was more straight first and i changed it while sculpting, but maybe you are right, should test that out
Another solution for the gaiters, would be to give the trousers a bit more weight and baggyness just where they go into the gaiters.
Hey Jason, that's all 3D at the moment, just compositing a few simple passes together. Bit of quick MentalRay, bit of realtime screengrabs ... really quick and dirty!! Nick hahah yeah I shall fill in more pages first!!
Roughly 5X the size of an ebear, Big Bad Blobbly is a mean bean. And tough to kill to boot, when he takes hits he sprouts lil'blobbys, fast & deadly.(lil'blobbys coming soon)
@Notorious : great job, but the slice on the side bothers me... It is supposed to eject the fired round, and it is way smaller that the muzzle diameter... Thus wether it's too small or the muzzle is too large.
Interesting fact about the actual creature from the movie...the creature effects guys sculpted a penis on this guy, and made sure several times to bring it up with Fox to make sure it was ok to have that. They repeatedly said yes, then panicked before the release and spend $10,000 dollars digitally masking out the penis hehe...
took a break from painting, finally getting back into it... got some weekend acrylic doodle time in. Skull is done (and really small), colorful face one is still wippy
Still messing around ...
Friend of mine introduced me to Hypershot, and it's been mentioned on that Gnomon DVD about robot kitbashing too. Giving it a try!
woah! f*ing PIOR! amazing stuff, haha the oversized kneeparts rock, so often when you see bots with the giant wings the look off balance, those knees and the posture really give him good weighting.
super you still seem to be using the same basemesh as you use to all your faces , making them all look the same, also you tend to always give them the same bone structure, eye structure , lips
Pior, that looks fucking kickass but could you show a screencap from max with some spec in the mat :P more interested in the shapes you got going there :P
ferg , that face is really cool , id hang that in my wall

If by basemesh you mean a default Maya box, you would be right.
Robot, looks pretty good. The tip of the barrel bothers me though, I didn't notice it on your high poly until I saw the marmo shot. It looks like the parts near the square holes are accidentily flat. From the marmo shot, I first thought it was an edge normal problem

The wood wouldn't be bumpy, it'd be polished and smooth.

Sorry, no 3d!
but i will be creating this character in 3d once I've coloured the concept
Thanks tacit math and Anuxinamoon. These are rejected concept sculpts, I think I'll leave them be and move on to other stuff.
The forearms look a tad to small but it could be that it's intended to look that way.
anyway nice work so far
I'm liking that colourful face Ferg! Nice colours

Ferg- that second painting is nice.
If by basemesh you mean a default Maya box, you would be right.

@ Ferg
I really dig the second one! You're paintings are kick ass.
@ Pior
That looks really nice, cool style!
Oh and I did some more zbrushing on it (Not shown here, just some cuts here and there).
