here is a chair i made using zspheres2....took about an 30 mintures to model and texture using zbrush. Going to try to have this be a focal point for the scene. It will be far away but am going to really try and push this with high contrast lighting to make it stand out. Like this chair has front row seat to end of world.
Did you use clay tubes over the arm rests? Try gettin rid of that brush look. Thats the one thing i still need to get over when using ZB. Again...I know its gonna be far off in the scene though...so maybe fix it nxt time
Overall lookin really good for sumtin straight outta Zspheres.
i am thinking i am going to include a " where's waldo " or a " find that item " in my final submission. If i can keep this pace up for asset creation then I could totally do a giant list of like a hundred items:)
yah...stuart...i just don't care about that detail. Pick your battles...and spend time on stuff the player is going to interact with. Being solo on this project I have HUGE amount of work ahead. If i nitpick I will never get done.
It just needs to read from far away.
nope...no clay tubes...created an alpha for the buttons and wrinkles...projectioned that on. Then used soft cement to put in cotton. Then a bit of standard brush for the seams.
I think maybe the scratches and normals are a bit to extreme for this.
3rd and 4th picture are good examples of what I'm trying to say. It's a nice asset but a little to extreme. I might just be the only one who thinks this.
crazyfingers: yah a yellowish spec would look good. That is my zbrush render of high poly. When i lowpoly it...I will try yellowish spec.
LOM chaos: yah...they are pretty extreme:) It will help it read better from far away. But yah..this was first asset i did and got pretty scratch and rust happy:) in future it probably should be more toned down
thinking i need a better computer at home...going to buy this thing? any thoughts? 9GB of ram seems awesome...i have no idea if zbrush can utilize all that though?
cool...diwan...glad you like the tutorials and the technique. Took me a long time to figure out all that stuff.
Here is WIP on a fire hydrant for my scene. I did it using zspheres 2...so everything zbrush again. still need to add some scratches and the other holes....this is about 30 minutes into the mesh.
Kewl stuff you got there, Nick. Especially the wrinkled newspaper and the chair. Btw this is, V. I will be looking forward to your videos and this thread
your individual asset look softy on the edges, reminds me of gummy bears, I wonder what it looks like in Engine. like your concept that sofa chair looks killer
nice nick, but agree, i think if u just take some time to add the extra edges where needed no one will mention the gummy look. oh and where does the water come from in the hydrant?
damn nick! you're busting out assets like crazy. They do look a bit mushy/gummy bear style sometimes, but like you said...going to be so small and in the distance that it won't matter. Probably fine to keep doing them that way and just get a ton done fast.
What texture sizes are you using for all these small assets?
ROFL!!! i just looked a the vids you guys were talking about. I about peed myself laughing. Horse sex and learning about vagina videos. Veoh seems to think that is where my Zbrush tutorials should be grouped. I actually kind of agree:) hehe. I guess cause i have an XXX in my name it pulls those results.
Crazyfingers: If you ever in Los Angeles you are free to stop in my class anytime:) Glad u digging videos. I know zbrush pretty good but trying to teach it to school now. Very hard. I have over 300 students.
Zero: don't pretend to be shocked. You know u love those vids. You watch WAY worse stuff.
Ruben: yah i will remember to tighten the edges. on close stuff. and yes you caught me! i need a water hole.
cadninja: I am just going to use 2048 for everthing and then do a round of optimization at the end. That way I can have freedom to compose the scene how i want it. Stuff that stays in the background. I will make those like 256 eventually.
KillahK: Thanks:) just trying to save time and work smart. People are right now...if I don't spend that extra 15 min with pinch brush my stuff is doughy.
So in talking to Turpedo...Kelvin from Twinkle Again....I realized I need more foreground elements. To really show off some high res texturing and modeling. Also I needed some more high concept stuff. Something with a message.
So here is blockout of my new idea. same thing pretty much but added a bit of wrapper. Probably will still put vehicles in the scene still. But I will also include a window frame around everything. Like you are looking out of a window. The walls will have ton of clippings about...state controlled media...violence in video games...etc. There will be a big blood splatter and brain bits on wall like someone killed themselves. And finally a little action figure setup recreating Tienanmen Square. Don't worry will treat the action figure like a statue and keep it very minimal.
I think it could come together and have a VERY powerful message.
cool idea nick, now we can see some cool zbrush assets in the foreground. you might want to break the symmetry of the room and maybe have one side with all the clippings you described and the other side can be broken this might give you interesting lighting for the final result.
hmmm interesting nick. one thing for sure is to change the perspective angle for the outside and make that more dynamic! this is starting to remind me of flash forward for some reason O_o but cool do it to it mang!
Wow! great...very happy you guys like it. I like it too. Feel like it really helps convey some story:) that was sorely lacking from my entry.
So i am trying out the new max viewport render. WOW...very impressed. AO and everything. Going to see if I can use it for my final. Not sure if it can handle the number of objects I want to show though:(
Here 2 more vids...one for the rubble. No sound in this one. The other video is for the piece of paper i did:) Also..i am using vimeo now so you don't have to install anything.
Turpedo: yep...I debating about doing my submission using the 3dsmax viewport.
Autocon: I do believe the rules said that we could do screengrabs from viewports of 3d programs. Glad you like the video:)
Mistry: Yep...more videos will be coming. Maybe some tomorrow. Today I wasn't able to do much. I teach an intro zbrush class and it took about all my team today.
Conte: Yeh everyone seams to be keying in on my spec. I been just using the max sliders. haven't made them yet. But i will tone them way down:) And yes...I am a machine. All your zbrush belong to us.

What you guys think?
Thank you for the videos by the way, I learned a thing or two.
And your last couple of assets look awesome.

Here are some render tests.
Here is a piece of rubble i did today in my zbrush club.
