Hi, my name is Jason. I'm new to the forums and I don't know anyone here... I was wondering if anyone would like to create a team... a team... OF FACKIN' DESTRUCTION!?

You get a team going yet AE?
Can i has team? No team yet still waiting for details on this years competition dont want to jump in too quick.
That is pretty cool. It's a nice little trick that could be used in a lot of ways, even on individual meshes outside of an editor. Or added to entire scenes inside of whatever 3D app. The vertex paint modifier in 3dsmax can be applied to a bunch of objects allowing you to paint across a bunch of separate objects at the same time. Maya can probably do this too.
humm... I never thought about it being used to color correct or tint meshes before, I only ever used it to tweak and bake lighting.
Quick example, all separate objects, no lighting.
Also there are object placement and alignment scripts for both Max and Maya.
jocose, nice find!
A collegue pointed out to me how the SSAO he has draws occlusion arounds things it shouldn't, like around the lightpoles. Anyone know if that's specific to Unreal3's SSAO, or to SSAO in general?
Is there a rules page somewhere yet? I'm thinking about participating in this, but will probably only do so if I can do it solo. My skills are not there yet, but it would be nice to work hard towards something via a competition.
not me! thats for sure! but man.... kinda nervous about this specific sentance in the annoucement...
"Once again, artists will work in teams to create the most Unearthly game-ready environment imaginable, but gone are the pre-made concepts of last year."
Thats seriously fucking annoying. Some of us are actually clearing our schedules and moving around work hours to make sure we can do this. It could atleast start on time.....
Ah Phil shut up. You bunch of cry babies. These contests don't run themselves.
There are a lot of things that have to be done in the background in order for these to run smoothly. The rules, guidelines, story if any, sponsors, judges, prizes, etc.
i just figured it was a glitch... i.e. the DW deadline clock that never started :P
it may be they need more time for judging on comicon as they said they would announce the winners before unearthly and have yet to do so... pure speculation of course
so yeah, i'm gonna just put this out there... i'd like to be part of a team and get my feet wet on some enviro stuff... mainly i'd like to help with misc. static assets... just wanna be more involved for the black and green what can i say... i love you guys
no, the 1 week extension in the end is almost mandatory. so you can bet on that. but on top of that they might have a 2nd extension for a few days to a week.
I guess I am alone in believing a deadline is a deadline. Perhapse a deep problem of our industry. So yes, I will bitch and moan.
Who wants to take bets theres a time extension on the end too?
Haha, you're welcome to start your own contest and stick to your original deadlines if you'd like . We'll even start a thread for you announcing it. Big capital letters and everything!
