Please use this thread to post links to VIDEOGAME environments you've found recently that either inspire you or may inspire others. I'll start with a couple of gem's found @ CGTalk:
Not to be a Debbie downer, but I was hoping to see some videogame-made environments. The hope being people see them, get inspired, and wonder how they were achieved. Hopefully learning something along the way.
I suppose the higher-res stuff is good too as it'll have people wondering how they can achieve those environments with game limitations.
Those UT shots are awesome, thanks for posting. Can't think of a more painterly scene i've ever seen in UT3. Shows how far a few good floral assets can take your scene.
Adam: I like how the scenes you posted were inspired by classic paintings. In fact, they're much more pleasant to look at. Inspiring. I may have to actually join this year's challenge.
Heavy rain! Great looking game, it just seems like it'll be boring as fuck.
brandoom: UC is about building game environments.
Everyone: If its not apparent already, putting emphasis on your games ATMOSPHERE will be clutch to the success of your entry. It's one thing to build sexy props and textures, its another to represent their environment nicely with an accurate & effective atmosphere.
Crazy, yes--it will likely disqualify it. You're supposed to start everything fresh the moment the contest begins. Regardless, any theme or restrictions have yet to be announced.

Alan Wake.
Yea but HL2 times a million. Its too bad this game has taken forever and a year to release.
As for this unearthly challenge. I checked the website, they don't give much info on the actual challenge. What is it all about? Environment art?

All in Crytech (haha, my mistake, thought it was UT3, thanks for the heads up "what's true", apt name btw)
That was done in the Crytek engine.
I remembered these shots from the CG Society feature on T4:Salvation - shame about the game, the environments look really good.
Also, Bionic Commando:
And to go full-circle on the Grin environment power-house :
This Naruto game for the 360 has a really cool style too, for those sick of all the over-exposed tufts of grass
So there, no excuses for shitty env art in this year's Unearthly >:]
(edit: put quake for some reason, i'm really beat :P)
dawn of discovery - not sure it counts as its rts but I think its impressive
call of juarez bound in blood
