Just some updates that I did over lunch and during a loonnnggg meeting:) I think I am closing in on some thoughts, the demon spearing the human on a stone slab while toying with it might be fun!(concept #80) But I gave myself a few more days of thought on this, since there is so many good starts out there already:) Thanks again for looking and commenting everyone.
I have a question for you guy's, I want to do a demonlord where he is pretty much going in the direction of #80. I was thinking of giving him 4 legs, but cutting them off around the knees as they would be coming out of the base (lava) I thought this would convey hell, and then use the polycount to do death on the back of him (intermixing with the lord himself) I guess my question is, do you see this as a cop out on doing the legs?, and is it ok to have the base intergrated into the character? As it seems to me that the base should involve itself in the story of the character your creating, and not be a last minute thought.
hrrm, I suppose it would all be revealed in the construction shots right? I`d be okay with it - but theres something about having a model thats only 80% complete that would make me feel dirty. :P
we all know you could easily produce some amazing legs, but it might hurt you if you leave them out. My suggestion would be to do the legs, but sink the character into the pedistal. If it was a production environment you would have to make them in case he ever decided to emerge from his lava pit :P Good luck dude! The sheer amount of thumbs you spit out is inspiring!
I agree with Konstruct, it would bother me a bit knowing that its more a sculpture rather than an fully animatable character. Im sure you could do a fantastic job either way.
Those are awesome spark, really like 78, nice weird organic shape like a mandrake root or something. Definitely model the legs though i think there have been entries in the past that have had integrated bases
If the character never fully leaves the lava ingame, then I wouldn't see a problem. Modeling the legs would be the safe bet, though. This might be worth contacting a DW official about.
Hey guy's, thanks for all the feedback as it really helps to get a good sounding board on things. I would comment back to all of you, but it's late and just wanted to show some demon head studies that I was playing around with. At the moment I am stuck on my design, as I cannot figure out what final pose the creature will be in (it's to damn stale) so I probably will continue sketching out thoughts. Hope you guy's like the heads, and polycount is on fire!
Slammin'! I think it's once again a combination that might be a bit more interesting.. how about the jaw and teeth of the top and the horn placement of the bottom head. Just a though.
lovely sculpts spark, maybe go even crazier with the horns? Was also just thinking that a crown of thorns or barbed wire or something unconventional like that might be quite cool if he's a giant hellish torturer, maybe he tests out some of his techniques on himself for fun
Im with helixx on the horn placement! The bottom one has such a cool sharp pointy look to his face that is completely obscured in the profile silouette. A swept back hair horn arrangement could be cool to couple with those.

Demon Head Studies
42 = most unique
54 = most solid (reminds me of tank jr)
Totally love both the first one mouth area, and the second one horns.
