Awesome work as usual Adam! It looks like something that was spawned from an alien mating with a Georgia O'Keefe painting. And I mean that in the best possible way .
I generally don't enjoy posting WIP's when they're this early but whatever, its just a small silly environment for 22WT to play around in. The plan is a small, quick environment I don't have to stress over that I can put the robot in. A few more props are planned I'll be calling it done.
I'll worry about AA later and fixing up errors later.
Pretty cool little scene Adam. I really hope a rat is one of those props you have planned :poly124:. It would be cool to see the robots "head" turned to one side a bit and have him like scanning something with his little eye thingy.
really nice adam, looking forward to the finished scene, that robot always makes me thing of a walking watercooler for the office lol that would be awesome
Been away traipsing around Europe for a couple of weeks, but I kept my beady little eye on this thread whenever I could. Great work going on as usual.
Just a couple of quick bits from me. I'm working on a little project that was inspired by 'Big Bertha'. I'm going to do a WWI era mech/tank thing. I might do a proper painted concept for the commander as well. Apologies if the Russian is wrong - I just used some crappy web translator.
The top left writing makes sense. I take it you called it "Hell Breath"?
The red stamp, on the contrary, is not correct. It should read СОВЕРШЕННО СЕКРЕТНО. Not that секретный is wrong gramatically, it's just that it is not the proper way of saying Top Secret.
In a thread I would get more comments, but I don't think this is worth a thread, so I posted it here. Could people please comment on this? Am I doing ok? I have never really painted something (2d), and I want to practice that a bit. After painting cubes and spheres for 20 min I made this.
Again please comment on this, I'm a noob at painting so some help would be great
Started sub-division modelling this (like Havok, looks good btw), out of necessity since my comp can't handle the amount of polys for sculpting. It started as a single drape then I doodled my way to this, just seeing how it goes, it's quite fun.
Thanks, okno. After doing it for a while it gets really tedious. I do feel it is fun but becomes less so when you don't have good refs. If I do it again I think I will quickly sculpt folds in Zbrush or Mudbox and then re-topo them in Max. One part that probably made it more tedious for me is that I didn't use any symmetry :S.
Small update tonight and below it is a quick colour test for the bot. The plan was to introduce a solid colour to him to contrast against the environments colour palette.

Brome I don't dig the red to be honest. This is solely my opinion but I think that shape of thing is best kept interesting with some kind of geometric R2D2 approach rather than a flat paintjob.
And yeah, to my eye the red makes it too dark. I'd recommend making markings in white as an aesthetic decision, or olive/turquoise as a practical decision
And this is just a bit of my tomfoolery. I'm not sure if I like the flow of it, I'd like some critty... Specially on the forehead.

Nice model Lefix, are you going to texture it?
512x512 diffuse, normal, spec
~1200 tri
Looks good otherwise.
it's a grip :P
I got a chuckle out of it, but its looks damn good as well, love the painterly style to it.
and yeah to others it was inspired by Peris's work. Great way to learn by trying to achieve something similar to someone who inspires you
I mean what's its use? Other than to add grip I don't see why anyone would use it.
(Just thinking in real terms, of course it looks cool to have an extra big chunky grip, but is it believable?)
well, you put your supporting hand on it for more stable aim
All sub-d by the way .

In Unreal 3 material editor.
Normal map -> Fresnal node -> Add node
In the Add node is the Fresnal + Diffuse -> Diffuse slot
Voila.
I have one of those sabres. If you want any reference pics let me know.
