I'm getting ready for another match in the zbrush. Finally gave up on the retopology tools in Z and went back to good old maya.
Here is the base mesh I'm taking to Z this time.
I know human anatomy is human anatomy, but there are some striking similarities on how it was modeled and which parts you chose to show/occlude. Just wonderin'
Speedpaint, trying to understand landscapes. From a flickr photo, i swear somebody on here has posted a (much better) painting of this same picture before.

Hell yeah i sure did use it as a reference, along with some illustrations. Just like a painter would recreate a painting i figured i would learn better by following along, and i sure did. I can't believe i forgot to credit Zack! =/
buhuhu zbrush crashed while saving, this was after 30 minutes, i wanted to save 2 hrs later... stupid damn fu*ck arghsghsaghghs!!! all gone
zbrush save crashing happens pretty often these days, hmmm maybe it doesn't like my new ram o.o

Yeah I had the same problem before, got around it by first choosing cancel when saving and then saving again. Hope it helps
Neox, make sure there are no stray verts in the mesh you're importing. I had that same issue crop up occasionally and finally found out that stray verts were the cause.
Just remembered this from a few weeks back and I saw you were not sure where the bones and stuff came from so I thought I would play detective :P Looks awesome dude -- great study!
Oh yeah and Neox -- try cranking the compact mem size. The default is 512 so every 512 megs it'll use your hard drive as a scratch disk and create a tremp file. More ram = less referencing the temp file = less crash while saving
not that I know of ... I know if you send pixologic your files when ZB crashes they can attempt to retrieve them. I am going to a Gnomon gallery opening toite and I can swing by the Pixologic studio while I am there -- I have been meaning to ask them a few things anyway. I will report my findings when I return > : )
Since it seems like so many people are sculpting Zangief for the comp (can't blame them though, Zangief is awesome) I thought I'd change mine up and go with Ryu instead. Surprisingly he's not that popular in the comp even though he's probably the most iconic character of the game.
that sf comp is getting intense, too many good entries!
adam: looking really nice
bryan:cool balrog, good render too.
konstruct: lol interesting character. i swear i seen one like that in the dominance war 1 competition if im not mistaken.'robot hitler'.
quickie update from me. lots of stuff needs fixing as you can tell, still very wip. need to figure out a helmet for him as well.
also need to figure out how to bake this down to lowpoly with so many different parts so any input on that would be greatly appreciated
Razorb: Even though it's stylized I think you nailed the features quite right. Would perhaps be easier to crit if you made a more realistic face in matter of proportions.
I like it alot though. How did you manage to get it so sharp. A sharp brush or simply clean painting?

It looks like he used hard, round brushes with an opacity of 40 or so and bracket tabbed size depending on the area he was doing(bracket tabbing, which is Photoshop, so if he used Painter or another program then I'm not sure what it's equivalent is...but the [ and ] change brush size).
Correct me if I'm wrong Razor, but seems pretty close to what would make those strokes.

Bounchfx: Not sure yet what I will do with the jaw. I kind of like the angular form of it, but it draws maybe too much atention, well we'll see.
AdamBrome: it's been a while since i saw the movie. Maybe should see it again then.
