Ive been lurking these forums so long im tempted to enter with offensive
jokes but i guess ill just leave it as hi
Didnt see any introductions thread but i was working on registering! :)
its a more animal-istic-ish?? take on beast from the X-Men
Looks pretty awesome, Jam. It's certainly a different take on him. He looks pretty bat-like though, with the smaller head, the large ears and the scrunched up nose. If that's what you're going for, cool. But Beast doesn't really say bat to me.
I like it, JFletcher, but those roof spikes look a bit out of place to me. Seems like you'd just have more tiles there instead of spikes; there aren't any similar forms elsewhere on the building, so they're throwing me off.
Gonna have to disagree, I think they give the building more interest and they don't feel that out of place. Though, I think a bit more of an imposing/pointy cross at the top would help tie it together.
another sean bean update. He is a bitch to get a likeness for. Not too many good side views on the interwebs as he always has this messy hair covering his forms
I Agree about the spikes J Fletcher, but otherwise nice
@RuZ - Really nice texturing and shader for that head there

Something i've been doing in the Cryengine recently for a game. Still has a bit of work to go, such as the diffuse on the glove and the glove specular, along with some finger nails and dirt touches to the rest of the flesh. In all due time, it should turn out pretty cool

Very cool sculpt dude, but I can't help but feel the anatomy/bone structure you have given him in his legs makes him feel like he's on his tippy toes :P
More playing with ZBrush... I think I'm going to turn this lobster man into a full on sculpt.
Whipped him up in about 2 1/2 hours with a Zsphere armature and Sketch ZSpheres to bulk him up, then a touch of "Smooth Valleys" to get rid of most of the hard edges between the strokes.
MightyPea: I imagined her being a military commander of some kind, so I was going for a mix of blunt and elegant features. Looking at her now with fresh eyes though, she does look a little too bloated in some of her features (especially the nose as Swizzle pointed out).
8FtSpider: For this character I used an organized basemesh with loops for eyes, mouth etc. Unless I'm doing a quick doodle or concept sculpt, I find it helps a lot to have a well-developed basemesh to start with. The sculpting process is much faster and the end-result is a lot cleaner.
ruz: Nice clean texture work.
jam-i-am: Awesome work, I'm loving the proportions. Only crit I have are his pecs which seem to jut out too far. I think they would look nicer if they wrapped around his ribcage more tightly.
hahaha nice Obson, you did a good job sticking with the style. I don't think I'll have an entry for this week's one .
Here is the shield that goes with the sword I posted earlier. I put both of them on the same page. I'm going to go ahead and call this done for now. I shall sit in the darkness and wait patiently for Unearthly.
I think I will after Unearthly Challenge ends. I don't want to start it and then have to stop. I'm still deciding if I want to go the WoW style with the modeling and texturing or the next gen process.
excellent work guys. props to fatcap, ruz and adam
hey ruz, i think its about time you threw out a tutorial XD hwo do you go about your diffuse? do you use the AO some? seems from your diffuse that your dependency on your ao is minimal?
last night's fun... first one I started weekend before last at my friend's cabin, finished last night. On that same trip I borrowed an old dolphin skull from the cabin and started a still life of it around 10pm last night... then I realized it was 6 am and I needed to sleep. Still life is still very wippy wip... but I havent done one in ages and needed to paint something besides the same ol' ferg faces.
FAT_CAP: really nice bake, it's looking great already
killingpeople: awesome head, polypainting ftw!
Ferg: cool paintings, that skull looks like it came out well
@ Ani - is that 3d or vector? Would be awesome to see it as a short animation of some kind - love the style, and the way one bird is lookout while the other steals the sandwich.
nice bake FAT_CAP and dig the strapping on the left arm
cool as usual Ferg
dig the mini narratives in your work Ani
looks like you are having fun with polypaint KP, heads coming along nice.
Thanks for the comments on mr bean guys and butt_sahib I will try and cobble together some kind of tutorial at some point.
But basically it starts with a zbrush polypaint as a base, overlay a default face photo and tidy up with clone and healing brushes. it should look fairly plain, with no creases or deep shadows
Then I overlay the normal map (desaturated) after inverting the green channel as a soft light or overlay - then adjust contrast brightness etc, paint in more colour/detail underneath the normal map layer.( i just use that as a guide mainly)
Another way is to bake in some specular lighting in max after increasing the self illumination to 75 percent. overlay this over the original diffuse.
This is one of my bases. should make a better one really
version with overlays and retouching below it.
obviously the hat verison is not quite finished, but shows the difference
every time i see something new from Ani i have to go watch ill go crazy if i don't go crazy tonight, i love that style and it always reminds me of it, great job.

Obson - my new desktop background, fantastic work man, always enjoy your 2d work.
Turpedo - veerrryy nice, you defiantly captured the style sword to shield, will you be modelling these?
I think I will after Unearthly Challenge ends. I don't want to start it and then have to stop. I'm still deciding if I want to go the WoW style with the modeling and texturing or the next gen process.
More work on this guy - lowpoly and bakes almost done. I Want to go back and touch up some areas now that I see ti altogether.
