I haven't posted in this thread in a long while. So I figure I will dump some speedies up in here. These are all around 2 hours. Happy sculpting. Cheers.
I generally do environments and props but given I was sick today I decided instead of resting lets play with mud box and a quick goblin base mesh I threw together in max
Random looking speed-model from a new faster process I started using for making hard surface stuff in Blender:
(this topic should have more hard surface stuff)
I think it took about 30 mins to an hour. I used booleans + remesh modifier + smooth modifier in Blender. The great thing is it's totally non destructive, here is a 10 minute tweak:
Obviously it's only useful for this kind of explicitly shaped object, and it can lag a lot with lots of booleans stacked up, but it's fast, non destructive and you get a low poly almost for free

Hey is there somewhere that describes this method more thoroughly? Sub-d modelling isn't something I really have much experience in or really enjoy but is an area I feel I should probably develop in. I've also been planning to get to grip with blender soon so this is really interesting to me.

I haven't seen anyone else use this method in Blender, I just had the idea one day. It's not really sub-d modelling but you can get the initial shapes with sub-d, before doing boolean.
Anatomy sculpting - head was already pre-built for something else I'm working on.
Body sculpting and posing around 2 hours.
Vray shader, lighting and render 1 hour.

Just a quick doodle I made while a bit ago in the PC hangout.

Here's another quick one:

Render took another 30 minutes
roughly based on this painting
Body sculpting and posing around 2 hours.
Vray shader, lighting and render 1 hour.
(Fire extinguisher robot)
(sculpt)
And a timelapse:
