Are you going to finish it with colors before deadline, or not?:(
Thats a great modeling work, so thats be bad if you not finish it for the end of War:/
Whew things have been hectic on this side of things, but slowly trying to get things done. The diffuse is almost done and thought I would start on the base and posing him today to take a break from drawing. Hope you guys like it, and thanks for all the great responses and for visiting my thread.
on the stand i see skeletons, probably you could put some remains of robots or machines instead since this time the war is against robots and not any organic creatures.
I cant wait to see how you will pose this, I can just imagine that its going to be something really intimidating and scary, but I mean just look at him, it doesn't matter how hes posed! The platform looks great, I love how you put in so much detail everywhere, and you make every single poly count, thats what makes your work stand out from the rest.

Be careful, the rules say the pedestal cannot have anything which the character can pickup or use...
Hey guys, haha quite a debate going on and hopefully I am safe. Here is a possible idea for the pose, as I am kinda stuck trying to think of how to show off all of him naturally, so if anyone has any another ideas please pass them on by:)
Spark
B1ll: Haha, soon I will show it.
Rooster/Ironhawk/Clee101/Asmuel/Palm/Rollin/Gzero/audi100: Thanks for the complimetns guys!
Peppi: Hahah, I would be done if I had your skill!
MM: I was going to place some robots in the scene to show him killing both, but time constraints I am going to pass. Thankfully as Rollin pointed out the war is against everything.
Firecracker197: Preciate that, let me know what you think of this pose.
Clee101: The skeletons are just enemies past and really just wanted to use the damn things after I took the time to build them ( never building another skeleton!!:))
Asmuel: Haha, yeah he wont be picking up the skulls and chucking them.
Thanks again guys!
stop teasing us and show us the textured version :P
this is an absolute win!
edit: alright lets add a hint of critique to this
maybe the pose would be more imposing if it had a more obvious rotation in the upper body and head, like the old masters often did with their sculptures. and the right arm holding the baby thingie could be posed a little bit better.. tbh i just dont know how
Hope you finished in time.. I almost couldnt finish mine in time... Has the deadline come already? It was a bit confusing to me.. Now lets see some textures.
Ok, hehe with a few minutes to spare and having to rework my construction sheet ( got lost somwhere in the mix ) I can call another war done! Thanks to everyone that supported me ( especially to my bueatifull wife and new son, who I am now looking forward to spending time with. ) Along with my good friends here on Polycount and off for giving me feedback to help finsih this guy. Alright, enough blabbering, and onto the show...hope you guys like the final result.
"For all final images, all shaders that ship with UT3, HL2, Crysis, idTech4 and Xnormal are allowed. Standard, non node-based shaders within Max, Maya, and XSI are allowed. No manual HLSL editing via code, and no node-based shader creation."
Congrats on finishing Spark. I really dig the face and the upper part of his body. Be kool if you can you show us a closeup. Would also love to see alot of spec on those organic parts. I think if the background was darker would help bring out more contrast to him. Anyways, great work man!
very cool, overall excellent sculpting and the model and normal map came out really well, I would have liked to have seen stronger colours in the texture. another crit, maybe have all the special effects in the same colour just to unify the character more and give it more focus. In terms of shadows and lighting I cant really see much depth, there dont seem to be obvious light sources or strong areas of shadow or cast shadows on the character or stand? Lastly as clee said a dark background would probably help alot too.
I'm not going to lie to you though, it looks really rushed in the end. The texture and final images look like they got a lot less love than the highpoly did. So basically its similar to what happened last year. The textured pics could use a bit more shadow also. And you might have shot yourself in the foot using marmoset, but I really hope not! This was my one of my favs for sure!
All in all though, great stuff man. You got a wicked highpoly model out of it, thats for sure. Now go play with Spark Jr!
Frakkin nice work sir. For a man with a full time gig and having a baby, I am amazed how much work you managed to pour into this creation. Great final pose too !
Are the effects a paint over or did you use particles or the like ?
It would have been nice to see wee bit more dramatic lighting, but regardless, grats on finishing !
I missed that thread. I thought marmoset would be off limits because its not publicly available. I assumed thats why Vahl's entry vanished from existence last year. Great news best of luck again Spark.
My entry didn't vanish from existence last year it even made it in the wallpapers section
as for marmoset, we directly asked Fred, he said no for the winning pose, yes for the beauty, since people were allowed to use advanced lighting such as mental ray or brazil or photoshop their images, which is why only the beauty is rendered with it
Whilst I'm not 100% sold on the texture work, the concept and modelling quality alone more than make up for what (in my opinion) is lacking in the textures.
This deserves a high placement, thank you for such an exhilarating journey :]

I agree about the texturs. You're lost some detail you get in awesome sculpting work.
But, in my opinion, it's realy hard to get extremely cool diffuse with extremely cool normals.
But the model is masterpiece definitely! Good job man!

Seconded. Hurry up man!!
Woot looks great, now get that beast on there!

I think the intention there is to keep people from building the characters weapons and armor into the unlimited resources you get for the pedestal.
If theres a rock on the stand, theoretically he could throw it at you, but thats not the point from what I can see.

Everytime I see your piece I'm dumbfounded to how you modeled all that stuff
Your podium is truly epic btw
Congrats on a strong finish
Gorgeous
only i dont like the texture work :S
the color mix is just not my thing, and the scratches and stains are a bit of an overkill
also the renders seem to lack alot of contrast, wich the sculpted shot does have
you pulled of something nice in a short time man
Bit desaturated for my taste, but still very impressive.
And we definitely need some closeups of the awesomeness.

Look at this thread on GameArtisans

Fred himself said any realtime viewer is allowed.

Anyways sorry for hijacking the thread. I shall now STFU
