This is the sweet spot for your low-poly models. Post 'em if you've got 'em!Low-poly hasn't really been a requirement in the games industry for a long while now. This thread is for low-poly art style appreciation, so please take note of these rough guidelines:
- Keep models under 1,000 triangles.
- Scenes are fine, if all models are low poly.
Some dedicated low-poly modelling tools now exist that make this art style a lot easier to produce;

First post - I've been looking around these forums a while and I have to say, after looking at all the incredible work posted I'm not sure if I'm utterly discouraged or riled up to do some more modeling!
I have a lot of questions, but I'm still looking at tutorials online so I'm not if I should ask yet - I'll ask after I'm through a few more tuts And of course, any criticisms/ hints/ references thrown my way I'd be more than glad to gobble up!
A complete and total greenhorn at this, I'm about 3 weeks in using XSI Mod Tool and (after many a frustrating moments) this is what I came up with:
491 triangles, I've got to start UV-mapping/texturing and I'm forseeing me taking plenty of (frustrating) time there . . ..
edit: apparently I can't link worth a damn - anyone care to suggest a pic hosting website?
really nice crate xD
but the graphic job is even better. You did make a simple crate look nice.
Nice mech btw Zack
Hi Yoyoman, how do we display the cartoon feel (simple color or gradient of color) while maintaining the casted shadow? I have tried various combination of settings and none works out so far.
you'll be needing to add some cuts in the elbow and back of the knee if you want to see her deform properly
You may wanna add the black outline to your model. That could be achieved by enabling Toon Edge button under Render->Output tab.
It is post-processing, so it wont add additional tris to your model.
XD
yoyomon, I'll take that into account as well. I don't want my grandma getting randomly punched by two strangers...
Oh, and the model is 500 tris
