Superman 3D Animation from Terrence Williamson on Vimeo.
I built this character, rigged him and did a walk test to make sure that nothing is intersecting. Modeled in Max, Rigged and animated in Maya. Shading, Lighting and Rendering are done in Max/Vray, with a little help in Substance Painter.
I'm planning do a collection of animated moods featuring this character, with a few friends of mine. We try to squeeze time inbetween project schedules to improve our workflows.

Edited for another pass on the lips. final render in UE4

Finished first pass of shot 7(final shot , fucking hell yeah haha) I don't know if I will add like 12 frames more to this shot. I will see the whole animation and I will tweak the cuts if needed. Also I will make another pass in all the shots like fingers, face, shakes , blinks and cameras. Time to start the anime challenge

Glad to be around!, seems like a great community!
Love that animation and character!
The later half is still in blocking and faicials haven't been touched yet.
Here's my progress with my work:

Hito, I kept the head wiggle because a friend of mine thought it was a nice and subtle acting choice. I hope you don't mind. I'm not sure if it ruins entirely the whole piece..:(

@Blond no worries man. haha. It's one of those things where you'll probably get as many different answers as people you ask. It's up to you do decide whether a suggestion makes a lateral or forward move, to paraphrase Jeremy Collins, for your piece. I don't remember if it was the same in the blocking, but I notice it now, the actions for "If you don't mind... where things stand." her left hand moves about the same distance for every pose. I think it'd good to open up a pose or two to vary it up a bit, and to emphasis her position of power over the other dude. From the dialogue I feel she starts out condescending and patronizing, then progresses to dismissive and impatient, and a little domineering. the first part feels good, her poses are kind of "closed" and stand-offish, but doesn't progress to match the voice in the 2nd half.
Thanks for the enoucraging words! Completely agree for the hands things, almost feels robotic and unnatural.
As for the acting getting more aggressive, that it aslo true. There's a disconnection in animation the later half since I reworked from ground up the blocking and wanted more dynamic poses. Though the ideas are interesting, you lose the former calm and snarky attitude she had in the frst part. I'll try to smooth the poses out to quick fix it or just change them altogether.

P.S: Jason Shum's tutorials are great, for those that haven't seen them: https://gumroad.com/jasonshum
I can't wait to read your critique whenever you get around to it. Really appreciate you taking the time to critique too.
I<m about to complete this one. I'm getting onto the facials and I'll touch it up for a polish and try to find a place for it in my reel.
My biggest complain about this piece as Hito Pointed out is that the acting completely feels disconnect from the rest and the dialogue, almost as if it was animated with 2 differents mindsets...
And that's actually true. The whole thing was blocked 2 YEARS AGO! While the first half's blocking was interesting and working, I though the later half lacked dynamism. Anyhow, I dropped the project...Not sure why but I decided to pick it back up since I liked the audio. While I didnt apply much change in terms of movement to the first part, I completely redid the later half and decided to make it more ''interesting''...
As a result, you have this animation with a blocking done 2 years ago and a blocking I did last sunday. Overall, I still enjoy the piece and wish to hear more from you people.
more facial animation practice... not purely a study like the other two before, though still heavily referenced.

Today's progress on Jason Shum's tutorial I'm watching (@Shumface on Twitter)

I'm already onto another one (I'm giving myself 10 days to complete the next one).
At the same part, I feel the body is too snappy itself and should be overlapped so it moves after the head and mouth.
Interesting pieces.
Sonny said: Nice start. I like the overall poses, even though it's hard to tell how they are going to transition between themselves in spline.
Not sure about the timing/spacing in the air part too. Looking forward to more

Which shot/acting is better?
Also Blond your one heck of a good actor! I always struggle in making an interesting character acting decisions! You make it look so easy.
I have a question though, the guy sitting on the bed, would you animate his arm in IK or FK?
When the monsters puts his hand on the floor surface to lift itself up, I'd bend the fingers more agressively to put more tension into them.
A as a matter of taste, I'd add more arc, more smearing-squash when the astronaut exits the next shot.

I know and Yes you are absolutely right.
i was just playing with the rig so i thought i should upload it on the forum.

as done as it'll get, with all the bells and whistles. probably some minor tweaks down the line. This one is VP2 + DX11 shaders, baked PhysX cloth, 102 frames 14sec. Planning to do a render comparison between VP2 UE4 and Redshift (when I figure out its shaders).
