Can we see them UVs? I think it could be because smoothing groups and UVs aren't set up correctly, not because of the polies.
I don't think its the UVs, the UV is a box laid out on 6 sides nothing special, and the box itself is just a box with a couple edge loops, to solve the mystery, I baked a rounded corner box onto a box without rounded corners, therefor its projecting roundness on sharp edges, If I added a few more edges to round the corners, then problem solved
still a little disconnected, but you get the point.

Are you UVs joined or are they split with separate smoothing groups? Because the best way to do things like cubes or most >70 degree angles is to split the UV shells and give them separate smoothing groups, I am horrible at explaining, maybe EQ will see this and give some insight
Not that new but I wanted to show it anyway.
Finally I can start releasing some stuff I worked on in the past months with the Shockwork Studios team.
Yep! That's why I wasn't that active on the Internet lately.
This is basically a Commander miniature for the tabletop strategy game that we're working on called Black Rain, her name is Kali...guess why?
But here you go! For more infos about this character, the tabletop game and the progress check out the blog : http://blackrainthegame.blogspot.de/
Ps: still a wip though
Man first time I have actually gone in and painted a loading screen for one of my sets with a brush and some texture overlays. Usually I super impose them onto backgrounds. This one I decided to practice my painting skills a bit. I was scared and I didn't have much time to do it. It's sloppy but I love colours so... pink!

I think this looks awesome. The image is powerful and colours are great!
Continuing on my sword, trying to get roughness and albedo correct, not having an entirely fun time. The metal in particular seems really early 2000s CG to me, if anyone has tips please come to my thread!
You got the link to that thread? At the moment the blade looks dull, like there is a round edge where it should be super sharp. Also the blade should have a sharpened part where its visibly brushed metal that changes into steel. Hope it makes sense.
Seeing you already have solid 2D skills ( Great Portfolio btw ), have you tried just sending those into zbrush and having a go at it ? Zbrush is somewhat awkward to get into, but definitely worth it since you're doing Visual Development and such.
Nice Lorex ! But I think the background is "eating" her, the color on the right side being too close from those of her outfit. Maybe try to desaturate it a lot ? I understand that you want to keep the green part of the background on the right to match with the rim light.
I love rocks. What kind are these? The first two have the usual fracture lines, but I think you can also think about next time how the counter fractures work.
Here is a cool article on it http://maps.unomaha.edu/maher/STEP07/supportinfo/cracks.html
When I learned more about why rocks crack and why rocks can not crack it really helped with my rock making skills.

Thanks. Honestly not really sure what kind they are and now I think about it thats something I really should have thought about before I started. Had a fair few ref images but need to sort them so I am working from those that are of the same type.
Thanks so much for the link i will read that today

the structures in the distance feel reminiscent of the ancient structures in the Halo series.

Image x-post from WIP thread.
Are you working from any concept? or are you just spit ballin' with it?
critique is much appreciated
Still a long way to go.
Second character ever - never done cloth or a female o.o
i'd say... wrinkles and stuff, go for it. skinpores? no need really, just use a detail map in the final material.
