@Lee3dee Thanks I really wanted to make everything feel cohesive which has been an absolute pain :P Some stuff doesn't translate as well to a specific art style
Here is a final screenshot of a bunch of hats! I really wanted to add this feature in and I reckon there is enough time :P I'm going to try and get it out in the next update . You will be able to unlock hats by finding them during races and picnic matches, but in order to unlock the hat you have to also win the race! Some minor texture seems to patch up but for the most part they are done. should have just under 30 for the final game.
Should be posting an update for the game soon, I'm hoping to have all the tracks playable (though not all finished :P)! Here are top downs of all the ruin tracks. Its ugly as hell at the moment but getting the critical path is really important and takes as long as prettying it up :P
Here are the current characters, 5 so far (panda needs work) 3 more to go. Characters are quick to do as they all share the same skeleton and animations. Each one takes less than a day. Only downside to this is that they can't be modified that much but screw redoing/retargeting animations, anim trees, montages and a ton of other stuff.
Finally here are a few materials and renders Any feedback appreciated.
this is my favorite Dev blog that i have followed, can't wait to play this game, seriously amazing and i've been sharing almost all the updates. you said there will be a ps4 release right?
have to say i enjoyed your game quite a bit so far... only thing was when i tried to go for it on the xbox360 controller the menu navigation was reeeeally wonky and i could not ever make the second controller be recognized by the game
I can finally announce it! Bears Can't Drift!? is coming to GDC as part of the Epic Games Showcase. Can't wait to meet some awesome polycounters, come and say hi, I will be in Moscone South 1024 all week.
gutted that GDC is over, met some absolutely awesome polycounters! Hope to see you again soon and thanks for your support and kind words about the game
Hey Azzamat! This is all very cool! Such an original concept! I was wondering if you are willing to answer a bit of a personal question: I am wondering if you are only working on this in your spare-time and have another job or if this is full-time?
Thanks for giving me an awesome reading through this Game Dev Blog! I am looking forward to more!
Hey Eliaswick, no problem. I work full time as a lecturer at Southampton Solent University on Computer Games Art and do this in my spare time, though I usually spend around eight hours a day working on BCD!? so not that part time :P

@Makkon thank you
Working on some stylised trees for the ruins environment.
Again trying to keep that blocky consistency while still having some detail. Let me know what you think

Still need to texture the top of the wall.
@martygalinskas3d thanks for that! there is a PS4 version coming. Hopefully the same time as the final Steam version.
New update 2.6 pushed the ruin tracks through and added the final characters.
