I think the ships textures needs some work to match the painterly style of your other textures, here are some suggestions I have :
First of all I'd change the color of the deck to something else than white - probably a dark desaturated red ?
Make the plates less uniform and don't restrict yourself to sharp 90° corners -- take another look at the bridge you showed on the last page:
probably you could deform the shape of the metal panels to match the shapes of these deformed squares and rectangles found on your Bridge texture ?
And finally you could randomize the bolts a little aswell - how about non-uniform hexagons with a slight belly to the sides ? It might go well with your bee theme
EDIT : here's a quick 5 mniute paint job to illustrate my suggestions (click to enlarge)
AshuraDX: I have started to redo the boat. The model isn't stylised enough. I will redo the metal texture to match what you have suggested, you are right, it will give a much more interesting shape
Thanks, when I get a chance I will post a video up!
Here is the current state of the arctic track! Still lots to do but its starting to look acceptable. I still need to add the new metal panel texture as recommended.
I love the animations you've got on that bear now. The ice level looks cool - those grass planes sticking out of the snow stand out but you say there's lots to do.
Thanks guys, I'm really happy with the new environment I have started working on the pickup icons. These are two that have been done so far.
The bird represents the speed boost and the bee represents the drop. The animals will follow behind you until you use them. I am also going to do a fish for the rocket pickup but I'm not sure about the shield. Currently I'm thinking either a tortoise (possible issues with mariokart), hedgehog, crab or an armadillo. I'm open to suggestions :P
Its heavily inspired by PS1 era so its a good sign that you picked up on it. Do both! I know I am :P House of cards is awesome :P There are much more too the birds and the bees than meet the eye, especially when they are combined!!!
First I have to say that this thread and your work is very inspiring, I just love how tone of each scene is working together and custom shaders, and everything is just nostalgia inducing eye candy.
For shield pickup you could use some sort of sea shell maybe? or, "bear" with me on this one, an egg ( egg shell helmet ? ) just throwing things out there.
Just made this moon! Its been nice to work on an actual asset instead of fixing little bugs and adding little pops to the game :P Back to fixing tomorrow.
Also looking for a musician for soundtrack and SFX for the game. Can anyone recommend anyone? PM me if you know someone, preferably with previous game experience.
New video up!
Demonstration of the new Difficulty select menu. Inspired by Quake, there are three paths too choose from. Easy, Medium and Hard. An icon will come up to tell you which game mode you have chosen.
Demonstration of the new Pause menu, still in development. Using the gamepad you can add players. replay maps and quit. Let me know what you think
Man, the feel of the drifting looks really really solid and awesome and I'm not even playing it! Great work, and the new features are definitely coming along.
Looks awesome! Graphics and lighting are looking great. I love the way the drift looks and feels - seems like you've polished that up pretty well. Looking forward to a playable! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks guys Really happy I got the grant I'm thinking about doing a steam early access to get some feedback once its all playable and stuff. As always any crit or advice is appreciated!
@Kaine123 Love that idea! definitely going to add it in.
Hi Kirkos, thanks for the advice, I may just wait until the game is finished if that's the case. Do people still do demo's any more? May do one of those instead :P
Submitted Bears Can't Drift to IndieCade and a few other places. It seems like all the submission deadlines for games are this month!
I Had a bit of free time this evening so I put together this shader + blueprint combo. It takes a mesh and does the shadow of the colossus hair trick to make moss
Started mocking up the final theme, titled ruins
Taking primary inspiration from kung fu panda, the final theme will have an ancient Chinese vibe with lots of towering bamboo shoots, knarled trees and paper lanterns :P
I have designed the game so that each theme represents both a colour and a season. The Forest theme represents spring/summer and a green colour palette. Arctic represents winter and a blue colour palette. Ruins represents autumn and a red colour palette.
I am also nearly finished with the base weapon system for all 16 pickups! Just one more to go and a chicken.
Any critique appreciated.
Decided not to submit BCD!? to the intel game awards. They have some very dodgy T&C's that i'm not comfortable with.

I am also looking forward to trying this out
@87roach: I do but then I keep moving things as well :P
@Ignacio_G and ed_3D: Thanks
Started working on the second tier weapons! I have over half of them done so far Will post up a video demonstrating how they work soon.
Mushroom Pop ups. Mushrooms pop up along the track in front of the top players obstructing their path.
Second
Salmon Mortar
Salmon rockets rain down from the sky knocking anything that gets in the way.
Also saw the news about the dev grants! I'm actually going to have a marketing budget now :P

Don't know if it will make it into the game as I'm unsure on its efficiency. Need to do some more experimenting.
