Ive always wondered how animations are done in sports games like NHL and Fifa, they seem so dynamic, its impossible to manually animate every possible encounter with another player. I don't get it at all, but its incredible.

I'm sure they just use Endorphin/Euphoria or tech similar to it, it's been around for a while now. Rockstar started using it with Grand Theft Auto IV.
That has to be the most elaborate and lucky back job ever. Also, who stands still and watches a crane coming down on top of them. Still, looks like a fun game.

Animation really needs to go next gen already. Christ, catching Witcher and the EA conference it's no different from last gen. Intersecting meshes, obvious transitions between cycles and generally still poorly executed on the whole. Fifa looked a so unimpressive.

I made a thread on this subject but most peolpe disagree and thinks animations are just fine...
I think they're way too quirky, unpolished, not smooth...
In regards to animations, I think it depends on the studios. Love the Witcher, but after seeing some of the MS stuff then seeing the Witcher, it's obvious that if CDProjket could improve something it would be animation.

How close to reality can you get without sacrificing control though? Animation needs to support your controls to feel responsive
You might have to sacrifice a little responsiveness to get better animation, but really the secret lies in proper contextual animation blending. I've seen games that pull it off in strides. But we need more of it.
Normally I dislike AC games but Unity looks amazing. The animations look super fluid, the scale of the environment is incredible, and the gameplay looks great. This might be the first AC game I pick up since AC2.
I'd have to say my favorite trailer so far would either have to be Inside or Mirror's Edge 2. Inside looks really interesting and has beautiful art and ME2 looks like the badass sequel every ME fan has been waiting so many years for.

Isn't animation one of the most expensive and time consuming process in entertainment?
Look at the budget for Disney movies and they're well past $200 million. Video games trying to catch up with that is pure suicide.
People were complaining about gameplay animation, which is more of an issue of needing to be dynamic, responsive, and look good. It's more of a tech problem than a budget problem. Those challenges do not really relate to film animation in any way.
The fake MP talk is making me cringe though, I really wish they would just edit that out and just say "they were communicating" because, jesus it makes it look so terrible, reminds me of this
Mindblown to see visually where games are at man, gobsmacked every year! This year hasnt failed to deliver either. AC Unity and The Division are blowing my mind!!

Haha, need to echo this. Voiceovers and commentary for these are just hilarious.
Thought it was funny in the AC trailer as well, though not as bad since it was basically just a narrator. "That was close! I almost got detected by those two guards but my friend got to them first. I returned the favor, by taking out the last one with my new stealth weapon...the phantom blade."
Game looks beautiful but would like a game-sound only video.
Awesome stuff. Can't wait to not play Just Dance. I may even not get the app. It would be fun to not play it in my house, but also not play it on the go. Heck, I'll not try anything once.
That rainbow six game looks fantastic, almost like a successor to counter-strike (since that series never bothered to evolve). the recoil looks really wonky though.
They shoulda mixed it up with the voice chat... Had some 12 year old kid come in screaming about how he F'ed your mom and stuff. That woulda been hilarious, and a great way to show us how the game will really be.
Also, that guy is fucking crazy, I actually got startled by the video because I was unsure of what he was going to do next. It's amazing how the graphics and voice acting can come together to actually make you feel like you're in the game.

My wallet is going to take a beating soon

These ubi trailers are pretty fantastic. Inbetween the trailers... kinda awkward
But im with you, Scizz. That Unity trailer was phenomenal
Thanks in the name of the whole team
*note to tactical team: Take hostage out the window as soon as you secure her. But then we wouldn't see all the awesome destruction would we. ;P

They seem to be having quite a few microphone volume issues, unfortunately.
You have to laugh at this guy, "Head of Worldwide Studios.... for North America" what a title.
