Wow you got lots of stuff, keep it up. Since you're trying to be a character artist maybe you could take a character concept or draw your own and bring it to life in 3d. Theres also a monthly character challenge thread somewhere on here too.
Thanks for the feedback, Defunct, I really appreciate it. Most of 2014 I spent the vast majority of my time doing daily studies, and now I'm going to transition doing less studies and more project based work like you suggested. Here are the studies I've been doing recently, though:
I was given direction from another graphic designer who works at the local church to do some with a galaxy in the background, and I came up with this custom galaxy based on about 10 or so pictures I downloaded from Pixabay.com
This is the final batch of images that we decided on using. There had to be a lot of different aspect ratios for facebook banners, twitter and instagram pictures, powerpoint slides, etc.
I got a book a long time ago called "Twilight Zone - 19 Original Stories on the 50th Anniversary," and I decided to do some concept art for one of the stories. None of these have ever been portrayed in any type of visual manner.
The story I chose is called "Torn Away" by Joe R. Lansdale. It's about a man resurrected by a witch who cages his shadow in a small jar. The man has lived for centuries, but the shadow constantly grows, and he is always running away from it. If it catches up to him, he ages quickly and dies.
I thought of portraying the shadow as some sort of beast crawling around.
John Harris Studies (EDIT: Turns out the top image of the warm colored spaceship is a actually a study of an artist named Anthony Jones, who in turn, made a study of John Harris. I should have been more careful lol).
Rendering study - The primitives were drawn in photoshop, and the background was rendered in Modo using one of the free HDR images from http://noemotionhdrs.net/
Downloaded the trial versions of a lot of software packages yesterday and today. I've been going through some Digital Tutors tutorials, learning 3ds Max.
