Been getting some good laughs out of those, Swizzle. Love em!
I decided to start over on this character, maybe I'll eventually start a new thread when I have more. What do you like, what don't you like, and what would you like to see?
I'll be refining the concept properly before modeling this time, since I've rediscovered how tedious it is to explore certain design aspects on a 3d model.
Working on a new piece at the moment, still fairly new to all this. I would normally give up if i was getting frustrated with a piece but decided to keep on going with this piece. Let me know what you think have a beginning to end shot and a few in between.
Lovely progression there, Sharvo! Your lighting and rendering is pretty good! I would focus more on the composition though. Right now my eye is led off the frame because of the path, the subject, which is the river I assume, is dead center, the mountain is clipped which is kind of annoying. Use the rule of thirds and you'll be set.
I'd also pay attention to your values. There is very little variation. If you take your image and desaturate it, you lose the feeling of sunset. There is no directionality to your light. Make the sky brighter where the sun is, and the rest darker, it will naturally lead your eye there.
I hope this wasn't too harsh. Don't get me wrong, you are definitely on the RIGHT track. All that is missing is a bit more focus on composition and you are golden.
I really really like the color palette, the warm hues of autumn are beautiful.
Cheers Will, much appreciated I am doing that one from work so will work on this Monday
Great work everyone, Geck those env pieces are lovely, would like to run around in that scene
Here is a piece I have been working on over the weekend, heavily inspired by some of the work from assassins creed! A First sketch to where I am at the moment... I think it is a bit dark atm...
An environment concept inspired by Skyrim (which can be a surprisingly tactical game when you reach higher levels) and Titan Quest Games
*silent update
More composition studies. At the left of the image are some remote man made structures, a watchtower and a dockyard which indicates that a civilization/city might be nearby and at the right are some wild life. The mood I'm aiming for is of a calm and relaxed mood conducive to exploring with no imminent threat around. The statue photo is used as placeholders and will be replaced later.
Great stuff, especially the last one! Only comment is keep the brushwork "clean" and focus on warm/cool to avoid muddiness (esp. in first one for example)

Man, just keep practicing and never give up!
I agree with Will Faucher`s feedback. I would also recommend to pay attention to atmosphere and how it helps to show the distance between the objects. For example, things that are close to camera are more contrast and darker oppose to the objects at the distace, which are less contrast and tend to ship color to blue-ish.
I would also pay attention to the scale - there are trees at the distance, which are, judjing by the perspective, close to the mountains. But because of the scale, they look gigantic.
And i would also recommend to add focal point, something that cathces the viewer`s eye. It might be some old castle, character or just a mountain with interesting shapes, etc.
Thanks for your feedback. As said im happy i continued on with the piece a bit. Now that i have gone away from the piece for awhile i may now come back to it. In the meantime i have been reading cinematic storytelling a great book so far teaching why some of the greats have created shots they way they have.
Talking of mountains with some interesting shapes.... I created these four mountains were each one has a different race on it and when they come together great things happen such as the fork forking a top hat, whilst wearing a horse shoe or some crazy stuff like that.

You`re welcome! They look nice, but i`ve meant something different. Take a look at the Creaturebox art, for example, or any Pixar movie. Pay attention to how they push and strech certain areas on the forms, in order to express different moods, characters, etc.
It will come with the experience, off course. So, keep practicing, man!

Great stuff all around! I've been trying to learn digital painting and I'm pretty happy how this has come out. I do though, kind of want to try and paint without heavy thick lineart.

I've been working on a few hand painted stylized textures.

Great work people!

Thanks for the tips! I`ve used muted colors and rough brushwork intentionally though.
Xpost from the concepts for modellers thread
Trying to get back into figure drawing/painting so I started up some daily gesture and slightly longer figure drawings in my sketchbook thread.

Kaktuzlime: Awesome stuff, I really like the colors. Hope Canada is treating you alright!
Started as a lunch sketch at work. Taking a break from the production stuff. Wanted to paint something meditative
Revisiting an "old" character. Fixing the portrait and the hands. Still got a hand left to do :poly127:
