Overall this is a beautiful image, and you have a style to your work that really stands out. I second what you mentioned regarding contrast, however (if you haven't thought about it already), to create a strong focal point, only focus the contrast in your main focal area, not all over the image - creating a uniform contrast range throughout the entire image will flatten the visual tension throughout and lose its narrative impact - rather, just focus on the main character(s) and allow the rest of the image to lose contrast - forcing the eyes to crunch down where you want them, and to relax where it's not needed.
Chai - Thanks so much man for that paint over, I agree with the hand and handle, I've tried to fix those. Concerning the sword, as adam has said, I feel the straight angle isn't doing the piece a favor, plus a sword that size directly on the shoulder would'nt be too comfortable. Anyhow, let me know if it looks better now and I appreciate the comments.
will - for a guy that starting to paint : ), thats insanely good, what black magic are you doing?
kaktuzlime,pyapor - looking dope guys!
I've tried to be patient but still can't paint more than 4 hours at a time...I'll have to learn to be more efficient maybe..annnnyyways
update time!
Hey everyone. lots of awesome, inspirational stuff here. Here is another one from me. Very WIP, I'm still trying to get a handle on Photoshop. let me know what you all think, i would greatly appreciate the advice. Thanks

Wow coloring looks tight as fawk, love the gold parts on the jacket !
The style reminds me a bit of berserk in a good way, very inspiring.
Regarding the arm, well like you said you can only grind one piece of art for this long ey ..
One quick improvement though can be to the skin material, check kaktuzlime post just a couple pages ago
(below I added more reds to the middtones, and blue to the edge shadows)
I wanted to try something different today. So, I did a long study about values/figure based on a photo. I spent like 5-6h on it. It's the first time I do that. It was really cool, and I liked doing it, and learnt few things about values (that was the point after all )
Thanks for comments ya'll! Here are some character-portraits I drew in anticipation of Wasteland 2! May or may not paint them, haven't quite made up my mind.
Hi @Dado! Nico to see you around as well! Thankyou for the compliments and I hope post something new here pretty soon, and your artwork is amazing, Congrats !
@kaktuzlime: You artwork is OUTSTANDING, fun to see and modeling, looking to see more!
Personal painting lessons are on hold for a bit. A commision for a childrens book came in that I just had to jump on. Some early flex sketches to figure out the direction and get a feel for the lions share of what I'll be drawing.
@ Mossed Neuron - Thanks man! Nah, I was thinking about making a post on their forum, but then again, I'm doing these mainly as practice and to entertain myself Besides, the style is vastly different from what InXile are doing. @Michelangelo - Thank you sir! I'm always trying to think about those poor 3D-artists, trying to make their job as easy as possible
i guess some more material definition couldn't hurt. some harsher highlights on the metal, eyes and partially on the skin. right now it all has the same dullish material, it looks nice but i think some material contrast might not hurt.
Hey Neox, thanks for the feedback! I feel you're probably straight on, and if you were my AD I'd make the changes straight away. I was looking at the value-gamut of Moby Francke's TF2-portraits, and I tried to stay somewhat close to that. I've felt one of my issues have been spiraling out of control with my value-contrast, not staying in the midtones enough. I feel very ambiguous about it. Coming from you though, I respect you so damn much man, I'm considering the changes. Thanks again, I get less critique nowadays than I'd like Cheers!
SWIZZLE LOL LOL LOL LOL, I read all the chapters to a group in a hangout over a course of a few weeks.
FYI, Gerad Way is a total hottie.
I actually read My Immortal to one of my best friends while riding in a car on the way to his wedding. We almost died because we were laughing so hard. Twice.

i guess if moby francke was your goal, you should work a lot more subtle and if your highest specular value is what you have, tone down the hardness in the other materials, look at this
he clearly has different materials, cloth is so much softer than leather or metal yet stil everything is painted pretty subtle. while on youes everything feels a bit samish, materialwise

You're right, I was wrong. Increasing the intensity of the key-light, and further separating the materials with increased specularity, and working on a bit more subtle form-defiintion, made the picture a whole lot better imo. Thanks for your patience and persistence. Looks better now, right? I ain't no Moby yet, hot damn he's good.
I was asked by a few of you to post an update here - but if it's best I didn't, just lemme know and I'll delete it - it's already posted as a new thread.

Draco was waiting there in front of his flying car. He was wearing a Simple Plan t-shirt (they would play at the show too), baggy black skater pants, black nail polish and a little eyeliner (AN: A lot fo kewl boiz wer it ok!).

Thanks a bunch! I recently watched your gumroad videos, and I'm a big fan of your work, it was a pleasure to listen to.

Very cool as always.
Didn't expect to see somebody who is waiting that game here, though.

Here`s my current work in progress - trying to design convincible futuristic soldier and adding a new units to my old army design. Hope you enjoy it!
