Is Megascan some kind of Texturepack with Diffuse, Normal, AO and Specular?
I watched some Videos but at the moment im not sure what Megascan exactly is.
I have to agree with Robe on this one . The toolset is absolutely mindblowing therefore it is quite weird to hear of pre-order specials from you guys.
To be totally frank ... it sounds like one of these short-term tactics used by marketing people in order to trick people into purshasing a product (thus securing sales early on) by putting quantity over quality, which is at odds with the huge emphasis on quality that you guys have been constantly showing.
I think that ddo, ndo and 3do are way above that kind of marketing trick and don't need any of these tacticts at all since the products speak for themselves so well. Also, pre-order specials can even backfire by making the end user hesitant about the purchase in the first place. It kindof sends a weird message.
I sincerly hope this helps !

Also I think I can feel why there is a bit of a confusion about Megascan in general. At first glance the name seems to imply that the user can use the "Megascanning" tech on his/her own in order to scan things (ie = "using Megascan", like "using dDo" or "using Photoshop").
It might be clearer to simply call it "The Megascan library", or, "Megascans". Or, calling a single texture set itself "a Megascan".
Its not that I do not like and am hating on the tool set. From what I can see it looks good but giving more features for a pre order when you almost know that it will do well if it is any better than the previous products. However for a software to reward features or presets for pre orders hints that the company in question has very little faith it will not do well when people realize how bad it is.
Not trying to say the new versions are bad by the way because if they were we probably would have heard someone at GDC say it somewhere.
From what I've heard, Megascans is going to be a seperate subscription, but with buying DDO you get something like 100 Megascans from the library to use with DDO right away. They are just bundled up PBR ready materials that include all the textures you'd ever need at very high resolutions.

The online Megascans library is a separate subscription service however, as opposed to the tool suite which offers eternal licenses for NDO & DDO.
Any info on how much this service is? I assume its a monthly fee with auto billing setup.
And who will be managing/billing for this service?
Trying to pre-order it but I'm not getting a pop-up window for paypal. It says click here but there's no link there. Tried in chrome and firefox.
-snip-
I had the same issue, but clicking "here" actually means clicking the "Validate Payments" button, I did and the PayPal window opened up and the payment went really smooth.
Preorder++;
Regarding Mega Scans (and particularly the "Starter Pack") - will this be an offline package, or will I have to download each texture at every use? The reason I'm asking is because most of our workstations are in a separate offline network.
Hello,
i already read that the megascan starter kit is about 1gig of footage, but what i wanted to know is how many different textures these are.
best regards
phil
The reimagined DDO and NDO will be completely free to all of you who already own a copy of the previous edition; studios, schools and individuals alike.
Looks absolutely awesome!
I haven't used any of the Quixel products before, but that certainly caught my eye.
If the usability is at a high level -and from what it seems it is- it's a no brainer!
Can anyone who HAS the beta talk about it or is there an embargo until a certain date?
Also can anyone from Quixel shed some light on when we should expect the beta if we have already pre-ordered?
Sidenote: Was quixel effected in any way by the recent heart bleed bug disaster? I keep not logging in just in case. :P

Can't really talk about it. I think basically anything you could want to know is shown off in the new dDo & 3Do primer video Teddy uploaded. We don't know anything more than you do in terms of a concrete release date.

I was just curious if the people who already have the beta were a part of the group that pre-ordered and were selected at random or if there is a "friends and family" type beta going on now.
Quixel seems to have left us in the dark for now. Which is totally fine, I'm just going insane waiting to get into the beta! (or get any news at all for that matter :P)
Correct, there is currently an unofficial pre-beta going on -- we're working with a few studios to stress-test the suite in production, helping us sort out most kinks before open beta. Official date is still "Q2" but everything should be ready within the next few weeks.
Luckily we were not affected by the heartbleed melt-down and our store was thankfully well-protected as well.
My apologies it's been a bit quiet; to let you know what's going on we've been visiting 30 or so studios over the past few weeks to talk with artists about any and all workflow needs. Gather feedback through the day, code through the night, very inspiring
One big focus is also to get a bunch of video and wiki material ready before beta to make this as easy to get going with as possible.
when i read their tweet on 30th of April that the open beta is around the corner i though its just a matter of two days. but seems their corner is further than our corner :P

I would like to know a bit of the workflow with Megascan.

a little insight on Megascans would be great .

Pre-ordered instantly after seeing the video.
Can't wait for the beta!
LOL, can't tell if serious. Take your time guys, make a great product!
I wonder if they are doing it in waves based on when you pre ordered. I pre ordered but haven't gotten any emails yet.
This
correct.

The Megascans library is also very impressive looking. Is there any news on how the subscription/pricing might work for Megascans?
Thanks
