Looks good. I like the colors a lot and that it's not looking like Lego like much of his other items. Though, i think some good materials could lift this up even more.
I am satisfied with the materials , didnt wanted to give him to much of a shiny feel.
I find that givving him a toy'ish feel (like you said) . I think I will make a video to show the diference in materials .
hm, the red cloth clipping through on the left shoulder - is that intended? I suppose you could fix it by just pulling polies since the area is one flat colour. I think it looks much better designed in the concept. Otherwise, looking good!
Update .
I am allmost done with the textures . Sadly I will have to ditch the leather straps from the middle of the belt due to having a very aqward pose . (left)
update: Here is the set in the game atm ( mask1,mask2 are the ones from the standard set ; going to make them tomorrow along with the promo stufs )
His pose and animations gave me a hard time working on the skinning part:(
cheers
whoops, sorry for the late reply. I meant this bit:
I think the concept with its sharp points leading up to the tip of the pauldron looks more designed and intentional. The one you have in the low poly looks instead like it just so happened to clip through, and I kinda like the concept version more.
why is everybody so much into promo shots these days... its getting a science.. and i dont think valve does care too much at all. the promo shots that are in the ingame shop arent all that good, some are, but some are just meh. and its importantness (is that even a word) is i think a little overstated. do i care if wanna buy an item if the promo shot is good, certainly not, does it have to show the set? yes of course. do they need to look very dynamic, hell i dont care if the set looks good.
btw, that pl set looks awesome. and the promoshot shows exactly that. even though the facial expression could be straight out of a comic.

I agree with Spudnik that the promo pic is weak, and I am a total mihalceanu fan
Coyo.Te, you say if someone's mind is made up to buy a set then the promo pic doesn't even matter, but couldn't the promo pic be a big part in whether or not a person decides they want to buy something? Surely you are right and Valve doesn't care, but they care what reaction the set gets on the workshop, and a promo pic can influence that as well.
Of course, this is all just my opinion, and I wouldn't even comment on the quality of the promo pic if the set weren't so unbelievably good. Mihal, your textures and design are stellar and I love your work.
Yeah, i saw people commenting "I don't really like it, but have an upvote for the promo shot". Which is retarded, because promo shot has nothing to do with how the items looks ingame.
I wouldnt say "nothing" to do with the sets. I still use the in-game version of my models in the promo shots. I don't have the painting skizzilz to paint a beautifully rendered promo shot. So i basically just pose the character in a dynamic pose with the set on.
I think the hand painted ones are fine, but i do find some people get a little disenfranchised about how the set actually looks, i know i do when i click on a really nice promo pick and "preview" the set on a hero only to find that the texture resolution is really bad and the skinning is horrible or something.
But i agree the above pose could use some work, or maybe add some illusions behind him, that might be a little work though.
I notice that your sword designs are very similar. Atleast the ones you made for Dragon Knight, Doom and this one. The design direction is very similar to each other. It is something I notice with Doubleleaf too.
You and Vlad,... How many hours do you spend on single items? I mean, seems blazing fast to be honest.
I'm uploading the video of the Spooky Kings sword here [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVaHlZLFRqg"]Spooky sword - YouTube[/ame]
After that there's just baking and UV tweaking, oh and some optimization. So double the time of the video and that's it.

Rest of the set looks really good in-game though!
The set came out great, though! Could you post a sculpt shot ?
