Alright here's a quick update from me. Not much has changed but all the parts are in place now. the animal sculpts are still pretty rough. I haven't touched her weapons yet either.
Now the armor needs battle damage, refining the statue/cloth parts, more filigree, beefing up the gloves, and I'll probably unify the size of the bolts.... aaaaaand I just realized I forgot to add the clasps that hold the armor plates together more soon! (but probably not soon)
daphz: What material is the "skirt" (bottom part of the armor) Judging by it's thickness and the bolts it looks pretty solid and would most likely prevent her from moving at all. And that spiky design would probably kill any horse/creature she rides so that wouldn't be an option either...
Maybe have another look at the armor references you posted in your ref-sheet or look at some medieval armor-designs. You will need a separation between the left and right side and separate plates that allow her to bend her legs at the waist.
@daphz: I'm not sure if that helmet/neck armor would work. Even the slightest rotation of her head would cause the "spikes" (sorry can't think of a better word for them..) on the helmet/halo to bump into her shoulder armor.
And I have to agree with ivars, her skirt doesn't look like it gives the legs a lot of room to move around, which would hinder her in combat.
And my last crit would be the fact that she has long hair which, even though it looks nice, would be an easy way for a foe to grab hold off.
But all that aside, model is looking awesome and I'm looking forward to see what else you'll be adding/changing in the future!
So I've finished the low poly and UVs and have done some bakes. I did my retopo in Topogun and UV's in Maya. For the bakes I used xnormal.
At the moment she's just over 15k tris (not including the daggers). I've decided to split up the textures, so there's 1 for the body, 1 for the head & hair and 1 for the daggers.
the A in afisher shall henceforth stand for ACE! looks really nice man! what sizes did you bake this at? 1k head 2k body and 512 daggers? you have some really tight ao edges, why i ask.
Superb job afisher ! Very very clean bake.
I just have one minor crit... The mouth is possibly slightly too low in the face. Maybe you could move it up a little bit on your final model once you've done with the texturing. But I say it in all humbleness, since I'm far to have a piece like this in my portfolio
Abrvpt: thanks man. I appreciate the crit. I'll see how it look once I've done the textures. K-PAX, butt_sahib: Thanks guys
I've been a little busy lately so my progress has been slow, but I managed to get some work done of the textures. Here's how she's looking so far. There's a few things I need to do, but then I can finalise the textures and move onto posing her. cheers:)
afisher, outstanding job!
My only comment to that would be the hues of skin and leather gear, they look the same, especially from behind, kinda hard to tell where bare skin is
great character, love it.
