Was insanely shocked to see how amazing that looked. Then I saw that little UDK icon and my head exploded...
Absolutely amazing! My only critique would be that the fur alpha is a bit repeatative, but it still doesn't affect the final image in a negative way. Seriously amazing stuff you've made here.
quick question, I see some of the values in some of the hair cards that are reused in a few places are different, did you reuse the same cards in texture but with different values to get the dark underfur layering effect you have, or did you vert paint it? or just get a really nice screenspace ao (<would not be my guess) from whatever this is rendered with? with a 4096 there is no question you could afford to have it in the sheet multiple times but it looks great so I had to ask.
if i had to crit anything it would be that the white speckly texture on the legs seems a bit like the snow from the environment, but snow tends to melt fairly quickly so i would expect those areas to either have some darkening around them from where the fabrics are wet, or just be wet instead of snowy, could just be wear depending on the material, but was guessing snow since it was on the plaid as well.
Awesome work ! Love the model and espesially the way you present it. The textures look realy nice, could you give a break-down on how you did the fur and the dirt on the cloth ?
Absolutely stunning character work and I am glad you slugged it out!
I have been going through the same thing with a character of my own. I started him back in September but I kept getting frustrated with him so I just need to sort my life out and finish it.
she looks fantastic, I would love to see her in a harsher lit environment like near a campfire at night in the snow with half her face hit by the firelight.
One thing that has always bothered me about this model is the face. Some of the stuff is just personal preference, but some of it just looks inaccurate.
Here's a quick liquify paintover:
Description of what was adjusted and why:
- I pulled in the shape of the head overall so it wasn't as wide (this is just a personal choice).
- I widened the base of the nose a little to give it some more mass and form (this too is a personal choice, but it creates more visual interest and contrast in the face).
- I adjusted the shape and size of the eyes. They felt too big and cross-eyed and the shape seemed somewhat inaccurate.
- I widened the bridge of the nose/brow line a touch to soften the transition as I felt it was a little too narrow and harsh.
- I lowered and re-shaped the eyebrows a touch (personal preference).
- I also adjusted the bottom eyelid, I pulled it up a little at the inner corners so it follows the lower tarsal plate of the eyelid.
- I slightly widened the lips/mouth just to bring it more in line with the scaled nose (also a personal choice).
Overall, great work on the texturing, materials, lighting and composition. Really impressive and inspirational, mate. It's always a pleasure seeing work from you.
Really good job man, congrats ! Excellent modeling, colours and textures ! And it's really nice to see a great female character fully clothed, with no need for cleavage and other things like this.
Well done !

totally agree
Jonathan you've done an awesome job, but there is still some space (even tho its little) upwards. The first thing that jumped at me was the crossed eyes, usually if the focus is not very close to the face, the human eye is rotated around 4-5% outwards
This is just fantastic. I know you said you're not happy with it but to me it looks great Any chance of wires? I'm really curious to see how you managed to get 47k tris in there!
haha saw this and thought, thats a nice painting fletch di-HHHNNNNNNGGGGG. nice job dude, its super rad. id take emil's and neox's suggestions. push it a tad more to make it super awesome.
Stunning outcome mate. You shouldn't get yourself down on it, like you've said, you've noticed the areas that are not working so next time you know where to refine.
In the end its a damn nice piece for your portfolio.
I like the face as it is, although Emil's adjusted face look more realistic, it's also more generic? The original face looks like its been made to look more animalistic, which would follow the theme of the hunter.
To me, it looks fox like, and I would bet that was the idea behind it? Or at least it feels like it was stylized on purpose.
I would say the face looks great and realistic the way it is.
Allot of people seem to think that a typical female is slim with a slim sharp featured face which I think is actually pretty short sighted.
There are so many different cultures with so many shapes and sizes and I think more artists should pay attention to that not just because it would be more refreshing but also because that is "real life" and that would be true to achieving the "more realistic" approach. This art piece has achieved not just in looks and physicality but also as to what the character would actually wear.
Wouldn't change a thing really nice style, good anatomy and great presentation.
Oh my, this is phenomenal work! Really amazing stuff! Just out of curiosity, did you paint the textures at 8k size and then resize to 4k? Brilliant stuff!

Incredible work!... I umm.... Please make an awesome breakdown and/or tutorial!

I want to see a game with this character now. Seriously this is amazing.

Ditto on the request on seeing some tasty wires and tex sheets!

One of the best presentation I've seen.

Also, this character is goddamn insannnnnne!!!1
Great character and texturing!
