What does it look like without the painted flame effect? The in-game shot has really dark lava pieces, and it looks a lot better that way. Did you paint those dark pieces out in the preview pic? I do think the model looks good in-game, but if anything i feel the preview pic is just as important in the Workshop.
Bounty hunter shuriken wip! Feedback greatly needed so i can move on to the next stage. I'm a bit insecure about the fur parts and YES that's supposed to be hair/fur from slain animal
The fur just doesn't fit dotas style at all. Look at the spirit bear or Lycan's wolves or jugg's neck for some reference. It needs larger sculpted chunks with most of the smaller detail painted in with some lighter strokes.
Need help! For some reason my recent item dissapeared from workshop:( The link is still working http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile.../?id=167695811 but you can't find it in workshop. Even statistic of the item has stopped after first day.

Someone said it would come back if you switch view to friends only and then back to public.
more work in progress - crits/suggestions etc welcome over in my workshop thread
P.s. if i wanted to do an evil/dire alternate version (e.g. a texture variant and/or a modified head model) could i do that as part of one submission or would it have to be broken up into 2 seperate characters?

I was just trying to simulate the self illumination that it has, though you are right. I'll see if i have time today to fix that.
Side note, I forgot you make a note in the description of the mineral blade saying that I'm the original creator. I bet I've been reported about 30 times already. :poly122:

Treat them as two seprate couriers, and you'll be good to go!
Treat them as two seprate couriers, and you'll be good to go!
current thinking is work on submitting one courier (e.g. the cute/radiant version)
and then if the demand is there on the workshop, (e.g. more than 10,000 views) do the alternate dire version.
No point committing to the extra workload right now without knowing if people even like it as it is!
Does anyone know how you actually get a 5 star rating? I have an item with 30 favourites, 226 ratings which are 92% positive. It still only has 4 stars which doesn't make sense to me as there is items on the workshop with 5 stars that have less overall ratings and favourites. I'd love to know if anyone has worked out Valves weird formula?
You are a few positive votes from 5 star. Unless your downvotes are about 25. How I know? One of my items was in that region.
Is it only me or does the ingame preview doesn't display specular and other effects ? I've checked last few pages of this thread and can't find anything

the loadout preview does show light effects, the ingame preview in the compiler tool does some weird lighting things.
if you wanna check how everything really works out, click on the server button to the right. it will host a local game with cheats enabled and no bots just you and your item.
select the hero the item is for and dont worry about the loadout screen, that one just shows default items or your customized loadout.
i think the head's too big to work as a warlock golem at the moment. i actually thought it was a tentacle-y shadow demon set before i read the description

Thanks for the reply, but that's what I'm doing.
(check the steel ball - LOD1 mesh in all screens)
My old items don't have any specular neither. I've reinstalled dota and it still doesn't work, i will wait for the new patch.
In the past, I spent a lot of time thinking about the idea of designing parts for Dota 2 and I never went to work on it.
Yesterday I finally found a free afternoon and set about designing the concept of a new helmet for Skeleton King.
This is my first attempt, with few ideas, few resources, but I hope to become a fan of this forum, seeing, seeking and providing items.
I would love to carve this design with my own hands, only to try how it is, if feasible, or if not deserve to be continued more and spend my efforts on something different. My Blender skills are almost zero, so if anyone is interested in the concept, you can just send me a PM and we will continue developing it.
I'm not really a Dota 2 item creator (entered the polycount contest with a witchdoctor set though) but please read on. I make items for TF2 (got 2 ingame already) and had this idea for TF2 I'd like to share with all of you too.
Sometimes item creators do livestreams of their item creations. Or for example you may have seen the video of the creation process of the scorch shot that was posted on the tf2 website (http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=8045). I really like watching those videos to learn and see how an item was made.
Now I was thinking, why not make one youtube channel where all contributors can post their videos (timelapses or realtime seperated in episodes or something else, it's up to you if you want to add commentary to it or not). So there is one main hub where people can watch their favorite contributor's items being created. We could also host livestreams where people can gather and chat while an item is being created. Promo videos for your workshop submissions could be posted here too.
Now I think this could work for Dota 2 too, a channel where videos of the concept, modelling/sculpting and texturing process of an item are gathered for everyone to watch.
I really like to see this happening and I'd like to organize this, but only if there's enough support from the community.

Im pretty sure we all have our own youtube channels where we can post our own tutorials and videos, then collect them into various threads all over the internet for people to find very easily. Have you seen the Tutorial thread on this polycount thread. :smokin:

Just submitted my first Dota item! Enjoy!
Really good man!
EDIT: First part I wrote was irrelevant, my internet just didn't show a larger version at first.

had a 90ish% upvote hit 5 stars at around 300
i'm assuming there's a minimum total number of votes you need to hit 5 stars, and then you need a really high upvote percentage as well
and as you get more votes the threshold is more generous
is this too disgusting ? XD
pls tell me what u think

That looks great! I love the lines on the sword and scarf. If it isn't too much of a bother I'd love to see the wires on that sword.

as for my own bounty hunter shuriken, i ditched the fur part and tried doing a carapace like surface. Feedback is much appreciated.

I suggested this idea to the TF2 community on facepunch (http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1276235&p=41809936&viewfull=1#post41809936 & http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1298661) and people really liked it (many contributors like Primrose, Jalcolber, BANG!, Napy Da Wise, Daimao, ... already agreed on making videos), so I went ahead and created the channel (http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCDLP9NmSAcCzWabo_v58DA). There aren't many videos on the channel yet, since I only suggested it the two days ago, but there are many more to come.
Now I think this could work for Dota 2 too, a channel where videos of the concept, modelling/sculpting and texturing process of an item are gathered for everyone to watch.
