Ive been working in UE4 for a project the last few years but have now been jumping over to UE5 for some personal projects. What are the must-adapt-to workflows that have changed from UE4 to UE5 for environment artists? I know nanite/lumen, but Im talking about more workflow changes...are there any? I see some artists…
This is a dust off / remaster of an old piece that's about ten years old by now (barf, time, why?). It was originally done in UE4 with Quixel Suite for the texturing. This project is special to me for a variety of reasons, but it definitely needs a facelift to stay in the portfolio. I'm mainly looking to improve the…
I have a 5-year-old desktop pc. I just got a full-time job and looking to save up money for a new desktop pc by next year with the intention of using it for game dev (indie games using UE4 or UE5) and 3D environment art with UE4/UE5. I also use software like Quixel Megascans, Mixer, Substance Designer/Painter, Adobe…
Hi everyone, first time posting here. I'm working on a stylized Japanese bamboo forest in UE5, inspired by traditional Japanese art (ukiyo-e and Japanese painting). I'm going for a soft, painterly look with a lot of atmospheric haze — distant elements fading into the mist. 24-hour lighting (GIF): one Blueprint slider takes…
(Updated after posting, old email wasn't working. Please re apply if you see this.) Hi all, I'm the founder of a small indie studio building a first-person co-op restaurant management sim in Unreal Engine 5. Think the hands-on cooking loop of the popular "job sim" games, but with real management depth: skills, staff,…
What Substance workflow + export settings would you use to get the best results in UE5 using the new Substrate materials? Mainly to prevent 'white fringes' problem that was common in the UE metalness workflow around gradual transitions between metal and non-metal materials like dirt and paint? So basically a 'specular' PBR…
So Tim Sweeney basically said no big new rendering or graphics features. Merging UE5 and UEFN. No more Blueprints. UE6 early access late 2027, full release 12-18 months later. But there's a new version control system called Lore. https://www.unrealengine.com/news/the-road-to-ue-6 Really nothing interesting for game artists.
Looking to hire an experienced 3D character artist for a fixed-price commission. US-based only. The deliverable is a production-quality Character Creator 5 (CC5) character built on the HD facial profile — 262 blendshapes intact through UE5 export via Auto Setup 2.01. The character is a semi-realistic stylized human female…
Hello friends, I have a slight issue with ue5, let me explain. 1) I created a project in ue4 about 2 years ago and wanted to update it with ue5's new features. Going forward, I have my old project loaded into ue5 however some of the assets / models (from marketplace) haven't got textures applied or have but appear light…
