Huge per-vertex operations are typically slow when going with just maya.cmds and pymel due to the nature of the programming language (Python). What I would suggest is to use the Maya API instead. You sure about that? You're already including a proprietary DOA model format for substance source, and then requiring you pay double your substance subscription to do anything with it. The procedural modeling tools included in the newest versions of substance designer are even more useless and irrelevant than MDL…
