Pixel density refers to how small the texture pixels are on the model surface. The less unused UV space, and the larger the bitmap, the smaller those pixels will be, giving you greater detail to work with.
@Pyr, 2 1k textures is half the pixels of 1 2k texture. There are 2 * 1024 * 1024 = 2097152 pixels in 2 1k textures, but 2048 * 2048 = 4194304 pixels in 1 2k.

I can't seem to edit a single pixel in PSE. Even when I select a 1px brush, or even a 2x2px one with 100% hardness, I always get a smooth falloff and end up touching more pixels than I intended. Is there some hidden AA setting I can't see somewhere? Even the 'hard square 1 pixel' brush does this.
