I do plan on making it 1 piece of geo, but for right now I plan on getting the shapes down and then go through turning it into 1 piece. I'll post more images as I get farther along with it.
Hi! Multiple ways to get a gradient mask across meshes, to then use in the shader to modulate values/colors. For example the gradient could be stored in a UV set, vertex color, generated from the y-pos in the shader, ... The way to go is something you have to decide on.
I'm sure this is a question that has been asked a million times by now but I've been getting conflicting advice from friends and family. I want to become an 3d environmental artist, I already have been to school and have a degree in History but Im debating going back for Graphic Design (the only thing offered at my school…
Hi Everyone, This is my first post here, I've been too intimidated to post anything until now, but I figure the only way to learn is to get some advice from people who are better than me, so here goes. I am working on this old gas station from some reference pics. My goal is to create a portfolio piece showing that I can…
So when I work on next gen crap with spec maps and junk, I usually complain about working on the spec map. I would like to eliminate as much back and forth as possible. When you work on a diffuse map you have a decent idea of how it will look on the model, what colors you'll get etc. But with your spec it's kinda like,…
Don't you think it's bigoted as fuck that you assume this character must be made for DEI just because she's a woman and/or non-white? You're basically saying that the only time a woman or PoC can be the main character is if a white guy took pity on them. I mean, you haven't stated any reason why it should be believed this…
I had deleted the history and frozen transformations on my model and had the geometry sorted into multiple groups and subgroups under the "geo." parent group. After running Model Clean, the tool rips out most of my groups only leaving a few and deleting a good deal of my geometry. It gives me the It also gives me the error…
I agree wholeheartedly. Animation, audio, and VFX all deserve a lot more budget than they typically get. Animation is getting a little bit of improvement with mocap this gen, but mocap can only take you so far.
"When you say "lock, unlock, and lock them again" you mean conform the normals and smooth them and such?" When importing/exporting i always make a pitstop in Maya precisely for this little gem. Why locking, unlocking and locking again ? because this option lets me reorganize vertices order (think rewriting) cleanup all…
Low-end devices might have aliasing problems. If that's not a problem in your case - use geometry. Otherwise use planes with alpha. Make sure to create wires wide enough to compensate for mipmaping or you might end up with textures blurring so much it exceeds the geo, bringing aliasing problem back.
