I created the landscape in Gaea and used my Auto Landscape Material to paint it. It's still in progress as I'm still tweaking things here and there but it's almost finished. I would really appreciate some feedback and see what you guys think I should focus more on. Also feel free to ask any questions about my process.
You can do the lightmaps in Max/Maya just as well as you could do them in UE3, or in UE2. That workflow is advanced however and far from advised. Start with basics shapes! to set up my intentions. I want a lot of huge trees, twisted branches and trees, roots etc. The layout might change in the futur as it's just a test in Blender and the final composition will be in UE5.
