Awesome idea...but Polycount doesn't have a great track record for collaborative style competitions or projects. Anything involving teams where people have to rely on someone else generally fails. It's a shame because with all the talent here polycount could quite easily release a AAA game title (with a bit of code help)…
"I just make the textures entirely in Gimp (besides occasional temp edits just for visualization in Blender of course)." Ok well my compliments! I've been a member here since 2015, now if memory serves it's a first for myself replying to a thread where an artist is actually using an image editor to texture their work so…
Hello everyone, I made a post about this recently but I guess this is both a post asking for some other polycounters advice/ help for the most part. I was layed off early April due to a hostile merging company in china that layed off 80 % of the development team. Since I moved at cost from out of pocket to Washington I…
It's about a month and a half away before the start of Magfest, the gaming and music festival, in Washington DC, which I will be attending to give a Polycount themed talk. It will surely be a geeky discussion. They have also promised me a TF2 panel. Which with some of the other registered attendees, such as…
companies must provide REAL email links to REAL people NOT links to their website application. It can be abused in favor of the company getting free traffic hits for their site at the expense of the people on polycount. Make Polycounter better not worse "Chadwick "
After years of keeping my head in the game and constantly working i finally found a job in 3d. I graduated 3 years ago and have had some freelance and random things but never stopped practicing. I wanted to thank everyone at polycount who helped me out over the years with techniques and positive mentality - especially…
Ahaha b1ll, never missing a beat to bust my balls ;) I'm part of their community there and they sent me a QA to fill out. Was meant to be 'someone from our community helps with Polycount'. Lots of the guys there use to come here back when it was Q2PMP (Shacknews is around the same age Polycount and has its routes in Quake…
Hey guys, I am modelling a tank for BF2 at the moment and I was wondering if there is a way to check the polycounts of objects within the editor. So far I have not found an option to display it and I don't think it's possible to export objects from the editor. My main problem is that the turret mounted machinegun has a…
I recently made the move down to Austin, TX and would love to meet up with some of the local Polycounters in the area. I landed in the North West side of town, Vigil literally across the street from my mailbox, but I don't mind commuting for the sake of being around folks who can share an appreciation for game development,…
You can still download all the models and skins that were hosted on Polycount via Fileplanet (since that's where all the old links pointed anyway). The main site redesign is taking a while, because the people that run Polycount do so out of their own free time in addition to full-time jobs (often in game-industry crunch…
