Hopefully some of you have the Max8 demo.... When editing UVs, I'll usually make a poly selection of an area, apply an unwrap, and then edit the UVs. You can set those resolution spinner to the values you want, click OK, then in the Options menu click on Save Current Settings as Default which should restore your settings the next time you open the Edit UVW window.
