Over memorial day weekend I rode mine down to auburn university (about 2 hours from my place) and it was a pleasant ride! Apparently on interstate 85 everyone thinks the speedlimit is... 85. So typically everyone is going around 85 or 90. I was riding about the same speed. Around 85 the bike gets to about 9500 RPMs. It did…
I loaded up DM-Sanctuary in the UT3 editor and checked the scene stats and it stated there were 600k tris in total and 3million instanced tri's with 500k being attributed to the terrain. I am currently making a warhammer themed temple and was wondering what the tri count limit would roughly be on screen at any one time or…
Hey guys been suggested by a person to come to Polycount for some advice on how to UV. I've tried several methods on how to uv this character without making the seams too visible. I've tried to paint them manually in 3D coat, mudbox, zbrush with projection tool I've also used body paint 3D. Haven't tried Mari may consider…
So i asked on a FB page before this, i was asking about how many polygons is the limit when one wants to model a character for current gen video games. someone gave me an answer of '40k tris'. im not sure if i can trust this though, (1) first of all, do people call it 'tris'? i thought most people just call it 'polygons'.…
Hey PolyCounters 11,000 Triangles 2048 Diffuse, Spec, Normal Rendered in Marmoset I was wondering if 11K tris is too much? I ended up beveling the majority of edges and used 24 sided cylinders (at the highest) for switches/barrel. I did not make a high poly for this model and wasn't planning on using normal maps so I…
Hey all! I decided to work on the Brodie Helmet, aka the British Tommy. I love the idea of old combat gear in post apocalyptic settings, usually giving characters old style webgear, uniforms, and even weapons. The plan will be to beat the thing up a fair bit; dents, a bit of bending on the rim, lots of grime and probably…
@Grator: Thanks! It's actually just a tiled photobased diffuse texture and a normal generated with Quixels NDO. I used the preset "full spectrum" and adjusted those settings. The whole process just took about one hour. I had hoped for some sculpting in Zbrush but it just wasn't needed. @Gadgets: Thank you! I'm not sure…
I tried to retopo a part of the body and results were subpar. I'll explain further. I also found a double mesh in the process. deleted it and cut down 10k of triangles so it was worth it in the end. So, let's take a look at body's triangle count: It's only 10k, which is quite reasonable I think. And it's not what I used…
He's looking really great, he is definitely high on the tri's for a DS game though. Most characters I've worked on for DS need to be around 300-350 tri's. Unless he's going to fill most of the screen I would keep the tri count down next time. Areas like the tuning keys could easily be one tri, or a plane with alpha on it.…
