Just a heads up for the Polycount community. The tutorials here I feel are incredibly well focused and useful for game art, something I know may be appreciated by the student who is trying to find direct and evenly paced tutorials. http://us1.campaign-archive1.com/?u=d8275f08c56bce4e497deb01c&id=3e3508f6aa&e=[UNIQID]
Figured I'd make one centralized thread to dump all my work in progress weaponry in. Feel free to provide criticism/suggestions/whatevs! M4A1 (contract work) H&K CAWS (for Fallout: NV) This AK47's finished (a few days ago) but I never posted it here so meh: Don't think I posted this Mauser either:
Hi all, Is anyone here using CAT do rig game characters? Are there any pros or cons using it versus doing a "traditional" rig? I'm pretty new to rigging in general so I though it would be an easier way to get started quickly, but is there some reason why I should use the regular bones instead?
A guy I've been trying to finish up between moving and working. I should finish his bow and quiver soon and will do renders with each of his capes. For some reason the turn around render always looks fuzzy to me, esp in his face. I've never had that issue b4. {edit} top image is no longer fuzzy
I'm currently in the process of bringing this project to a close. I've finished the set dressing and made a couple more tweaks to com of shots, etc and have started compiling all the renders, etc for adding to my Portfolio. I'll look to add these up here along with a link over the next week! :)
Thanks! You ever notice how in rpgs and fantasy games, people get WAY COOLER as they 'level up', but in military games everybody is super bland? I envision a world where soldiers build swagger faster than they can receive commendations. A little bit X-COM inspired.
@Alemja - Good start. Careful of the feet they bow in a bit too much right now. Got a bunch done today. Nearly finished with the sculpt. Might re-sculpt the pants. Gonna take a look at them tomorrow. Also edited the boots from the concept and added some metal plating.
I've put everything together to see how it looks. Still a few things missing, and I still need to do the belt around the cogs yet too. Apologies to any engineers out there if this doesn't make any sense function-wise, I don't know a thing about engines!
Revisited the pants and cleaned up some of the other pieces after the holidays. Thinking I might wrap up the sculpt. It was good practice in clothing. I still need to do the low poly and texture and I would like to jump in on the Comic con challenge if I can. Cheers guys!
Here is a bit more info on the cons part: I had to texture a medieval character belt with tileable celtic knots. I tried to do it in painter first but needed to distort/edit the image shape before projection to match the belt model. In 3d coat you can do exactly that.
