Decided it was high time I got back in to high poly modelling. Do you think its wise to learn z brush or stick to maya?. I have worked with maya in the past an found it ok, but it takes me an age to make a high poly head that is worth looking at. I presume nurbs for organic stuff is now totally out of fashion? Some links…
Hey guys, I just modelled myself a human head and I want to unwrap it using unfold 3d. But it gives me this error message when loading the file: Code:

Testing and preparing mesh ... Invalid mesh. One of the points is not connected to the remainder of mesh. Please try to find thoses…
I'm back using max after a long period in maya, got an issue that I'm sure I sorted before but I can't for the life of me figure it out now. So I select a vertex Hit Z, the viewport now rotates around this vertex, great! I deselect this vertex, the viewport no longer rotates around this vertex. I'm sure it used to 'store'…
Hi to all, i m new to d community, n m really v much inspired by d artists out here.. i wanna b a character artist, n m already into sculpting but wat i want to know z , wats d most effective approach to create a character for game. i mean wat should b the approach, wat if i want to start it from sculpting and then do…
Hmmm - looks like in 2021 on MODO 14.2 this does not work anymore... I imported a mountain mesh (100k faces), selected it and switched to the Paint tab (never used that before) and clicked "Geometry to brush", projection along Z axis.... Modo bakes for a while and returns a completely grey image, when baking Vector…
This is how I'd do it, not sure if there is a better way... The top part just looks like a baked texture so that should be pretty straightforward. I'd bake a dense straw/twig texture to the existing lower geo you already have, then duplicate those faces and offset it a little so you dont have z-fighting. Bake a less dense…
Wow thanks man! RAM: Instead of the RGB (don't care much about rbg) found this: https://it.pcpartpicker.com/product/P2x2FT/gskill-trident-z-32gb-2-x-16gb-ddr4-3600-memory-f4-3600c17d-32gtzkw same voltage, same timings, only 50euros cheaper on amazon. STORAGE: Not so into Toshiba o ADATA, but will keep an eye on the price…
Thank you both VERY much! I've got a lot of things to try. When I retopo'd it I used 3D coat and it seemed like the retop mesh was hovering just on the inside of the high poly, so if it's anything it might be too small. One of the tutorials I ran through mentioned a z-bias, but I thought it was just referring to viewport…
Thanks TiGuy, that effect involves modifying z component of vertex positions according to x and y compenents etc. I know this isn't long enough an explanation but I just recorded a video about something else. I am pretty tired :) So, here's the new video in which I explain how to animate a spring in UDK. This can actually…
@FuzzyOwl That looks like a high poly smoothing thing there coming through in your bake. Are you using TurboSmooth in max? If that's the case, just try adding a few horizontal/vertical edge loops (depending on your geometry) to even out the poly distribution across the surface. Looks a bit like pinching in one area from…
